As for getting 100% gpu utilization, or well 99% i can definitely do that @ 1080p with a 970 depending on location and all that, but i will generally agree that in highly populated areas I won't be getting 100% gpu utilization unless i put render scaling to 100% to have it do 4k.
Why do you feel that an 8 core cpu needs to be $1k? We've been stuck in 4 core cpu limbo for years, it's time for 8 cores to become the norm and fall into the mainstream price bracket which is sub $500. Even consoles are using 8 cores albeit really weak ones, but its obvious that more and more apps are starting to take advantage of more than 4 cores. I'll be damned if my next CPU is another 4 core. At least 6 core, and even then i feel like thats a sidegrade over a real upgrade to an 8 core.
If AMD bring 8 Intel strength cores to mainstream prices, they'll become absolute legends.

Agreed. It would force Intel out of their current monopoly pricing (seriously, the 2600K -> 6700K pricing is more than just inflation and production costs. Nevermind, the Dollar price gave me a bad interpretation.

Still, I demand price drops. All hail the consumer, all boo the corporations! biggrin.gif

World of Warcraft have a lot of assets on screen, even more than your average RTS game, World of Warcraft is huge with tons of players around, each individual player with so many animations filled with draw calls for each and every polygon on these animations, to the grass and trees to the Pyroblast coming at you.

The thing with shadow is that even though all of these Polygons and drawcalls are high in numbers it might still be manageable by certain CPUs like Skylake 6700K, but then you come in and enable shadows and now every single asset combined that was already nearing bottleneck is now casting a shadow that requires near if not the same amount of Polygons as the original asset.

Enabling shadows in a game like World of Warcraft is literally DOUBLING the draw calls, or TRIPLING IT if there are several light sources as they now implemented more complex dynamic multi lightning in late WoD patches, which is why performance tanks when enabling shadows.

Draw calls are not the problem, it is the load they put on the bus.

35 people coming into view, congests the memory bus. The CPU "draw calls" are not what you think. The performance hit is the results of so many calls, unable draw because of stalled pipe.

More rops, and higher bandwidth bus, solves a lot of the stalled pipe.

Subsequently, i5, or i7 won't matter in WoW, if you had a Titan.

Then why I have the same performance with a 16 ROPS HD 7870 GPU with miserable bandwitch and 2GB and a Fury with HBM and 64 ROPS? Literally the same exact performance in Ashran and WPvP Raids, even PvE LFR raids.

If what you're saying is true then the Fury should be at least 8 times faster in Ashran and WPvP invasions scenarios, but it isn't even 10% faster in Ashran/Raids, except for GPU limited scenarios like your in your Garrison.

Btw, I also have a G1 GTX 1070 @ 2.1GHz which is faster than a Titan X, same story,

Personally I'm quite pleased with the discussion on WoW, given that it's the game I'm most interested in when it concerns Zen performance.

Given we know it will have similar IPC performance to Haswell/Broadwell, the overclocking ability will be my decision maker on if I'm going to base the dual xeon replacement with Zen or with Broadwell-E as I do enjoy playing with high / very high shadows and Ultra everything else. My 4930 @ 4.2 ran everything at ultra except Shadows (@1 below ultra) at 80-90fps in Warspear. The current Xeon at 3.3ghz drops down below 60 (I run my monitor at 96hz so it is noticeable). I'm looking forward to having some semblance of performance back at the settings I enjoy playing at.

I can manage to keep the 70fps to match my 70Hz most of the time but as posters above have mentioned, that all comes to an end in an AV/Ashran scenario. As @Cyro999 intimated, any downwards adjustment of shadows is greatly beneficial to frame-rates but it's annoying to have to slide them down.

That's actually funny i'm so used to playing with the shadows on the lowest setting because of vanilla servers where max shadows is pretty much what low shadows is on retail tongue.gif
