GPU Upgrade

Thread Starter
Hi folks, in a few weeks a friend of mine is travelling to the usa, so this is the best chance to get a new GPU and maybe a monitor as well, since these components are too expensive in my homeland. I currently have a 7970 that im still trying to sell, which at this point it'd be best to keep , so i was thinking to buy the a 1060 ,1080 , or the 480x amd equivalent, the idea is to have the most future proof gpu and most powerful for gaming at 1080, i have a budget of 500 - 600 USD . In regards to the monitor im not very informed , is 4k the most recommended if i were to get one of these cards? what is the ideal price range for one of these? im using now a dell u2414h and i could sell it after so that gives me at least 250 usd to invest on a monitor . id appreciate your help and I look forward to your reply

For 1080p i would get the gtx 1060 or the rx 470. 4k monitors in the U.S. start at around $500.

The 470 is about 90% as fast as the 480, but costs $50-100 less. I would say 4k is the high-end tier. Most ppl still game at 1080p, so i would say its the mainstream/standard right now.

This looks like a solid monitor:

nice, in that case i wouldnt need that monitor since i already have a 1080p monitor , a dell 2414h, i think 1440 would be a sweet spot too, but now ill focus and put all my money in the best 1070 there is, which model would you recommend? i have to choose among MSI , EVGA or Asus. D

or do you think the amd 470 would be enough to play at 1080p?

RX 470 is plenty for 2560x1440 if you turn down AA and maybe some settings to high in some games. In most games it should be enough for 1440p @ high/ultra with 2x AA. By "enough" I mean better than console FPS. If you need 90 or 100FPS at all times, GTX 1070 or above cards are the only game in town for resolutions above 1080p.

If you do get an RX 470, make sure you get one with 1750/7000 memory or better. Memory speed seems to be quite important on RX 470/480.

The RX 470 can handle 1080p no problem. I'd say its THE 1080p card. Sure, you can get the gtx 1070, but at that res its overkill ( you'll be hitting above 60fps and if your monitor doesnt support anything above 60hz, its useless). Nevermind the fact that the gtx 1070 costs twice as much.

I recommend this one. The extra 4 gig of memory doesnt give you much more frames for $$. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137024&cm_re=rx_470-_-14-137-024-_-Product
