ASUS X99-A II not recognizing m.2 SSD

Hi All

Firstly, apologies if this is the wrong area. This is my first post and happy to put somewhere else if required.

Secondly, I haven't been up to date with computer hardware since I built my last computer, 7 years ago. Please explain things as you would to a young child or a golden retriever. I will not take any offense!

I built a new computer last week and the m.2 samsung ssd is not being recognized.

i7-6800k
ASUS X99-A II
WD Blue 4TB
Samsung 850 EVO m.2 500gb
8GB GTX 1070
16GB G.Skill Ripjaws 3200 x 2
LG DVD RW
Thermaltake Versa N23 /w 600w PSU
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Corsair H100i v2 (only able to install 1 x 120mm fan. The motherboard is touching right up against the fans and I am unable to get the power cables into the motherboard if both fans are installed)
Coolmaster Riing 120mm in the case

As far as I am aware, the SSD is compatible with the motherboard. If it is not, damnit but that is an easy solution. If it is though, I would really appreciate the help in getting it working.

I have changed the bios for the M.2 configuration, from Auto to M.2 but nothing else. I haven't been able to find anything that has been about the X99-A II boards but this explains that the PCIEx8_4 also needs to be set to M.2. Once I get home from work, I will check this but should that be the only thing required to for the BIOS to pickup the hard drive?

Thanks for the help

The common issue with M.2 SSD's not detecting properly is usually solved by updating the motherboard BIOS. Have you checked to see if the motherboard BIOS is currently running the latest version? Is it being recognised in the bios and/or not being recognised in the operating system / installation of operating system?

Hello

You purchased the wrong drive. The 850 EVO M.2 is a SATA III drive. The X99-A II supports PCIe M.2 drives only.
