Yeah, I'm pretty much a complete beginner with watercooling.
Wish me luck!

Core Components (Click to show)
  • CPU - i7-5820k
  • MOBO - ASUS Rampage V Edition 10
  • GPU - 2x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 WINDFORCE OC 8GB
  • PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 850W Modular Power Supply
  • Storage -
    • Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
    • Samsung 850 EVO 250 1TB
    • WD Black 6TB
I have leant on these forums massively while shopping for the parts, so thanks to the clever clogs patrollings this place I have a build I'm actually very happy with.

Watercooling (Click to show)
  • EK-Supremacy EVO
  • 2x EK-FC1080 GTX G1
  • 2x EK-RES X3 250
  • EK HB Bridge (Not purchased)
  • 2x Aqua Computer D5 pump
  • Aquaero 6 PRO
  • Black Ice Nemesis Radiator GTS 560 XFlow (On its way)
  • Black Ice SR2 Xtreme+ 560 MP (On its way)
  • EK Fittings
I haven't made my mind up about whether I'll be using acrylic or PETG, 12mm or 16mm tubing. I want the security of PETG as I live in a house with 4 dogs, however I would hate to look at my finished build and think about how much better it would be with acrylic. The same goes for the size of tubing, I think that 16mm would look great in a case as big as the SMA8 but it will be a lot harder to fit my planned bends in. Feel free to give me your opinion if the mood takes you.

Not sure what you mean by security of PETG? If you mean the way it doesn't shatter like acrylic, its hardly an issue, unless your dogs have metal hammers attached to their tails. Vid (Click to show)

But these are the basic differences:

PETG:
-Softer -> can be cut with specialized schears
-Some find it easier to bend
-Allows fluid to permeate trough the tubing -> evaporation
-Not UV resistant

Acrylic:
-Stronger but more brittle(Cant be cut with a shears must be sawed)
-Clearer
-Not affected by UV
-No permeation

That is actually exactly what I'm concerned about.
I have done a fair bit of research in this area, I'm still undecided.

My girlfriend is also incredibly clumsy and I'm concerned one of them will jerk the case in the wrong way and... Splash. How likely is it that when lifted or moved, the weight of the case of the water loop will twist it to a point where the tubing could crack?

On the other hand, the case will be in direct sunlight every day and I'd like to keep my options for UV lighting open.

Did you watch the video I linked? You'd have to warp your case to the point of destruction for the acrylic to shatter, not to mention if you bend your case that much your motherboard would be broken too.

Also, Caselabs cases are made of pretty thick aluminium, they are very solid.

It was on my to-do list, I promise. I'll watch it now...
...

Fair enough, acrylic it is then!

Right now I'm waiting on my little res/pump combo and soft tube fittings so that I can start testing out colours and one EK backplate. In the meantime I'm going to pick up my monitor and put the waterblock and backplate on one of the 1080s while I wait. I might even install my OS see what my frames are like on some of my regular games, I'm coming from a 860m so the difference even with one 1080 is going to be ludicrous.

Still waiting to pull the trigger on the cable sleeves, I'd love to do it all myself but I wonder if that's a little too ambitious even for me.

Make sure to get plenty, bending hard tubing can be pretty tricky at first.

And cable sleeving isn't that difficult, its just a lot of fairly tedious work.

Yeah... I'm kind of a perfectionist. How much do you think I'll need to have enough practice material?

2 of my ram sticks don't even show up on my system and 1 of them is inconsistent. I am now installing windows with 4GBs. hmmsmiley02.gif

Turns out the G.skills just weren't playing nicely on my system, I went through 3 different sets in the end... Needless to say, I had a huge headache last week. I considered going for the more compatible TridentZ's but I opted for the Domninator's in the end. I'm glad I did too... They look a lot better even in my temporary system and not a single hiccup.

Flushed my rads last weekend and got started on a little mini loop for one 1080. I had several spills, mostly because I was stupid and forgot to plug not one, but two valves. Fortunately the alphacool work mat is very absorbent and I had at least enough wisdom to have positioned most of the connections on the side of my workbench.
Nothing important got wet.. Thank god. Lesson definitely learned.

Yesterday we rinsed the loop after it's 18 hour flush and got some dyes in. I went for baby blue to please my girlfriend... She's been incredibly patient with the constant deliveries, empty boxes littering the house and my random frustrated outbursts. It's the least I can do.

My aquearo 6 refuses to even turn on. I had hoped that my molex cable was just a dud, but when I set up up a little mini loop with one of the D5 pumps, it worked just fine. So I guess I'll have to RMA it.
It's a real pain because I have absolutely no idea what the best fan set up would be. At the moment I have them all plugged into a 5 to 1 pwm fan splitter that's run on a sata but I really don't think they're spinning fast enough... The rad seems cool enough, but the tubes feel lukewarm all the way around. Speedfan has my gpu running at 32c, but again my tubes are pretty warm. I'm concerned...
