PC shuts down when running speedtest.net - Page 3

Subbing to this thread out of plain curiosity, got nothing to contribute to a solution though, sorry....

Very odd. When you ran it with the wifi instead, did you disable the ethernet or was it still hooked up? If hooked up still, did you disable it within windows? Even so, if it was hardware based you would think it would fail under load from the other speed test sites.

I know you mentioned you don't recall the last time you could run it fine, but assuming you don't have anything on there that you absolutely must not revert have you considering doing a system restore to an older date?

Are you on the windows anniversary update as well? If you are on 10 that is and not 7 per the sig.

Aside from that...I'd suggest reformatting. And I hate suggesting reformatting. I know it's just one site and you don't ever have to use it, but it would personally drive me nuts knowing there is a major fault somewhere like that that is causing my OS to lock up like that.

Yes, i completely uninstalled the Killer network driver and restart. I also removed everything from the registry.

Than i insert the wifi adapter and the same thing happened. I can do ANYTHING with my PC. I can work in Adobe for hours on end without any issues, i can run IBT AVX all day long etc. etc. the only thing is that damn ookla thing and it starts to piss me off now lol

I had 2 Windows corruptions already which i luckily could save but i thing formatting is the only solution i think because i don't have an previous restore point when i didn't had this problem unfortunately. My guess is that it started after the anniversary update but i am not sure.

tomorrow i am going to run all the anti virus scans i can think of and i will look though the registry. It looks like a virus is causing this or its hardware issue. But then again, why only with ookla? I can format and reinstall Windows but that's the easy way, i need to know why this is happening in order to prevent it from happening again. But as to many of Windows problems there is no fix sometimes no matter what you do, formatting and reinstalling Windows seems to be the only solution sometimes sadly. I hate it because it takes a lot of time to configure Windows 10 in order to work like i want it to work..

So, what happens if you uninstall Adobe Flash? I believe Speedtest.net has a non-flash based beta version. If you run that does it still crash?
Edit: And on a related note, does anything else Flash based caused crashing?

That's an very valid point. I do remember that i read somewhere that flash player can cause all kinds of issues when hardware acceleration is enabled but i already disabled that and the problem is still here. As of the beginning of 2015, Youtube has dropped Flash as the default video player worldwide in favor of HTML5 among many other sites so that can be the cause.

When i go to that site i cannot run the test because it keeps asking me to enable Flash player.

I solved the problem.

Thanks to dlewbell i uninstalled Flash and the problem is no longer there biggrin.gif

I think its because they stopped supporting Flash i got these weird issues. Thnx for your advice guys thumb.gif

Now i have another small thing though, whenever i run the speedtest my phone has more than double the download speed compared to my PC with the Linksys USB wifi adapter..

on the PC i get only 12 Mb/s and on my Phone around 25 Mb/s. My Phone is the Huawei P9 lite and the USB is Linkys WUSB6100M. Maybe i need something better? Connection is great and the reach is also good, i have all bars full.

I still don't know why Flash would cause crashing, but at least without it you shouldn't have issues as frequently.
As for your WiFi, is it plugged into a USB 3.0 port or an older 2.0 one? I saw a Newegg reviewer mention that it has more limited speeds in 2.0 ports (though they didn't specify what speeds they were), so that is at least a place to start.

Glad it's resolved. Still very odd that it caused it to shut down to a state like you described let alone crash but I'm glad that's all it was. As far as the wifi goes I've never had luck with any of the mini usb based units as they've all been spotty at best. However your model seems to be pretty decent. As mentioned above, try other usb ports (preferably I keep them in usb 3.0 ports to ensure they are not limited). Also make sure the chipset/usb drivers are updated for your motherboard and of course the drivers for the WUSB6100M itself.

Me neither man.. But i do know that i had some problems with Adobe in the past for no apparent reason.. i just stopped using it and the problem was solved lol sometimes there is no easy solution and you can search for weeks or even months in order to find the "fix" and i don't have the time nor the patience to do it anymore.

Yeah, i tried every USB port i have on my motherboard but it doesn't change a thing sadly.. i think it has to do with it being an AC600 instead of AC1200. I am going to the store where i bought it from and get myself an AC1200 USB dongle and see what happens.

I heard from multiple people saying that USB wifi adapters are all performing very bad.. Ive seen good reviews as well, i am going to exchange this one for an AC1200 instead of the current AC600 and see what happens.

Thnx for the advice fellas, much obliged thumb.gif
