Am I too HOT

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

Does my rig need the 'ice bucket challenge'smile.gif

Raidmaxenzo case, coolermaster V8

Intel i7950, Asus P6t SE, GPU GTX960. I'm F@H distributed computing, runs 24/7 maximum fold power. Never higher than this & typically lower: 72 cpu, 45, mb, 70C gpu. (All temps C).

The rig's physical setting ranges from 77 - 83F (83F overnight).

mods so far: case cover 'plexiglass' has lower vent holes, attached a 90 mm fan to help exhaust hot air (blows out), the opposite side all metal experimenting with a fan blowing in, currently running this way: cpu 68, mb 45, gpu 70.

Thanks
disclaimer: i'm no expert, but I would say not hot. gpu 60-80 at load is normal (should be hottest component in your rig). cpu is fine considering 64C is for really high end cooling at overclock load based on Noctua NH-D14 while average mainstream cpu coolers are around 70-80C load. my motherboard is usually 32C. I wonder what your room temperature is. You have to compare the delta (difference between room and internal case temperature).

comment about your case: really wished u had top (ceiling) fan exhaust and bottom (floor) fan intake for more airflow. In your case (pun intended), temps seem expected. cheers

Thanks bboiprfsr,

Right now it's being forcefed 76F air, the intake vent, seems to have, allot of stuff in front of it & this get about 1 -2 degree drop, per speccy. It's in a air conditioned garage, so overnight I raise the temp to 80F.

I can bring it inside, my wife keeps the house 74F, year round, so I could put it in the closet, which stays 74F. I figure this would give 1-2 degree Celsius. If my temps were critical or close, I would do this, also dust factor would be less.

My case fan is a Raidmax not sure how this compares to a Noctua?

What cases meet those needs, suck bottom, blow top, air flow meant here:D

Thanks
Rick

well pretty much any mainstream case after 2011 (i guess pc technology evolves over time).

Here's my case lol
temps are like 60C for graphics amd 7950 at 100% gpu load and 65ish C for i5-3570k o.c. 4.5ghz at gaming scenarios. at prime95 (100% load all cores, i get like 69C)
my case is a Corsair 400R. has 5 intake fans (side, bottom, 3 front) and 2 exhaust fans (rear and top). cpu cooler is cryorig H5 universal/ultimate (lol)

Your temps are perfectly fine. i see no issues at all with them. Hell, my chip during folding hits about 83C and my video cards will hit up to about 80C as well. If that were my rig, letting the CPU get up to about 85C and the video cards hanging around 80C would be my comfort zone. Max temp on that processor I think is 95C and the card will start to throttle around 83C I think. Not sure. If someone wants to chime in on that and correct me.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html

Section 6 - Throttle Temperature

Also called "Tj Max" (Tjunction Max), this is the Thermal Specification that defines the Core temperature at which the processor will Throttle (reduce clock speed) to protect against thermal damage. Although Intel processors are capable of operating above 90C, we also know that excessive heat kills electronics.

Sustained Core temperature greater than 80C is too hot for ultimate stability, performance and longevity.

Cool, This am she was sucking 79F air & speccy reported, 71, 49, 74 deg. C (cpu, mb gpu).

GPUZ - says the GTX 960, fan's are, working at 28 - 34% at 72 - 74 deg C If the GPU were too hot, the %fan usage should go way, up. So cool!

Thanks Guys

Lord XEB - awesome folding numbers. Have you seen the 'open air rig', Vijay Pande commented on it, at there forum. The guys does, >million PPD!
I do a million PPD with this rig and another. On a good day this one can put out about 800mil. >.> either way your temps are fine.
