SC isn't even close to fully released.

The games may be vaguely similar in that they were both kickstarted space sims, but you cannot compare the funds or development time.

As someone who did not back star citizen, I wish those who are hyped good luck. They have more development money than ANY AAA game created besides GTA V, but work at a snails pace. I dont expect the game to have a 'gold' release till 2018+, unless they put it out with glaring issues. The game certainly has potential to be one of the best games ever, but it is way too soon to make judge it.
ED is garbage compared to SC. However, it's at least playable. But again the quality of the game is no where near SC.

But can you capture and sell, or even better, play with the slaves like in elite dangerous save the latter?

They can always ask for more. And the sales pitch would actually make perfect sense:

How could they? At least 50% of the potential buyers are already in. This will become a gigantic milestone... in the sense that crowdfunded games will be looked at from a different angle because it will fail. Not that I want it to fail, mind you, but all the alerts that any logical human should have are ringing heavily.

First rule of doing any project is to budget appropriately. How can you budget something if you keep increasing the scope of the game? Also, why do yo need to release the thing after all if you already at least 50% of the total revenue?

How many computer only games in this day an age can total $115M in revenue? And we would need at least $200M for a $115M to be profitable. And $200M revenue for a computer-only game is unheard of (except a few MMORPG).

If you're of the criminal mindset, yes! Difference between Elite though is there will be an actual person you're lugging around and not an item in your magical inventory.

they're also working on inherent issues with the cryengine too. they're locked at around 8-24 people in an instance because the ill chosen cryengine 3.0 can't handle massive multiplayer numbers. A problem they're still trying to recode the cryengine to fix.

ED is an actually released title.

And we want them to happen, so we need to move the game engine to the latest branch of Cry Engine with DX 12 and Vulkan support to make full use of the hardware; DX 11 and OpenGL don't cut it. Please replenish our wallets. Thank you. See you in a few light years."

Apparently CIG has some of the top programmers who were working for Crytek.
Remember that one time when Crytek couldn't pay their employees for a few months?
That's pretty much the basis for Foundry 42's Frankfurt studio.

If enough talent jumped ship then I have doubts that Crytek is actually capable of producing anything better.

Well.. They are doing some big updates for DX12 and Vulcan plus a whole bunch of new tools/making it a bit more intuitive, but we'll have to wait and see how that goes.
