You mentioned NMS, you cant berate a game like NMS while saying elite is better. They're equally as bad a one another.

How big is FD studio vs Hello Games? How much money does FD have and continues to get compared to HG? At least NMS takes a risk at trying something new.

Ask the same of all the others bringing up the comparison. I understand that ED is released, which furthers my point that it fails in comparison to SC. However SC is literally just a few nifty little tidbits and not a fully released game. I'm not holding my breath but I'm just not going to jump on the OMG it fails train either. I want it to succeed, hence why I have donated to the cause.

ED is an actually released title.

Lets hold off on celebrating the amazingly beautiful TECH DEMO that is SC until its released in actual game form.

I LOVE the look of the tech demos.

Now that we have that out of the way. ED is basically privateer-> which was my fav space game of all time. I wish the ships didn't look so lame, I wish space combat was more exciting and functional, and I wish exploring felt like exploring the universe not just jumping around to the same place with a different name. As a space exploration game it falls flat. As a space combat game it falls flat. As a space trading game it works, to a point. The fun with ED (what fun there is) is building up systems through grinding missions. It actually happens which is sorta cool. setting that aside, no it's not a great game.

Yeah, I would love a game like what they claim star citizen will be. However SC has been vaporware for half a decade now. And all the fancy tech demos won't get my hyped until we have a playable final product.

am i supposed to be impressed?. anothing boring game that everyone says is good but I'd probably never play more than 30 minutes. *cough* skyrim *cough*
post #84 of 138
The really critical point is going to be when CIG "says" they've launched the game, and releases a "retail" copy.

If No Man's Sky would have gone into perpetual Alpha like it should have (and is the true current condition of the game), that would automatically imply "not feature complete", and whatever condition the game was is would have been fine.

Star Citizen is still in Alpha, and CIG can reasonably keep it there as long as they want until people are satisfied with calling it "finished" enough for a "release" version.
Though I have my doubts that Star Citizen will ever be sold as a retail game anyway, there doesn't seem to be much need for distribution beyond their own website.

Breaking: OCN member probably won't play a game that doesn't appeal to them for more than 30 minutes! /s

Inventory seems to be based on what you can physically carry, store in your ship and/or cargo hold, what physically fits in a container, etc. From what I've read/seen there are no imaginary inventory slots. Which... I'm interested to see more of. I'm sure at your home hangar or whatever you 'll be able to store as much as you want. The inventory on characters is limited to what your suit can carry. Guns and grenades clip-on to suits and belts, things like health syringes are stored in a pouch on your belt. It's all done physically.

My point was that you can't compare a released game with a bag full of ideas, if you get what I'm saying. The day SC launches (and I do honestly want it to launch) we will be able to compare it to any other game on the market.

They did not have the same amount of funding at all.

Yeah as sad as it sounds, Star Citizen literally sounds like the No Man's Sky we should have gotten. Instead of spending 4 years running a stack of Xeon blade servers running an algorithm to generate an impossible number of planets, maybe they should have put some real effort into the game... and let you do more... or helped these guys here with SC. tongue.gif
