Air-Cooling Advice - Page 12

Ugh, I think I have worse problems than voltage now. My PC just got a bluescreen! D:

I was exporting 4K video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and then the bluescreen appeared with the message: "CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT". I couldn't get away from the screen so I had to reset my PC by holding the power button a few seconds.

Should I go back to default settings?? It might have something to do with the vCore changes...

You should first check with a different monitoring package to confirm that your observed vCore under load is what you think it is (1.2-1.26V vs 1.42V). If you confirm that it is the lower value, try adding a bit more voltage. Your CPU is probably just not stable under load with that low of a voltage. I'm assuming this is the problem and adding 10-30mV will solve it.

I don't believe this will be the case, but if other software confirms the 1.42V load VCore, you may have other issues. From what I'm seeing, it appears that you're still running your CPU at stock speeds. You'd have to have an extremely bad chip to need 1.42V core for stability at stock speeds, which would lead me to believe that the BSOD was unrelated to voltage. From what I'm seeing, the clock watchdog timeout errors can also be driver related.

In short, verify your voltage with a second source, & if it's low, bump it up a bit. If not, things may be a bit more complicated.

Side note, if you have some time, use the rigbuilder & add your PC to your signature. I know we can find most of the information in this thread, but it would help to have an easy place to refer to when trying to help you troubleshoot.

Thank you, will do! I tried exporting the video a second time and got a bluescreen again, this time with a different error message: "WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR". I let SIV run during the export and the voltage was going as high as 1.45. The temperature on the other hand was pretty low at 45°C max (that might also be due to low ambient temperature of 16.4°C).

I'm going to export the video a third time (but only a few minutes so that I won't get a third bluescreen) with HWINFO64 running in the background.

EDIT: It looks like this after a minute of encoding:

EDIT2: Oh and here's my PC btw: http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/6600459

That's showing VID. You want Vcore. You'll have to scroll down further in HWiNFO to see it. Here's an example from my PC:

Also, now that you've taken the time to fill out your PC in the rigbuilder, take one last step & add it to your signature.

Damn, silly me. I looked at the wrong numbers.biggrin.gif

It's exactly 1.200. I will go back to 1.28 or something.

Kinda strange that my PC passed the ASUS Realbench but struggles when exporting video with Adobe Premiere. Weird.

Hi there

As above this can be simple as adding extra few like 0.020-50mV on vCore as 1.20 is looks like is unstable for you

Or can be as simple like adding bit more as adding bit more System Voltage(VCSSA) which shpuld fix that

But agree with above points

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

I just encoded the video with 1.28 and there were no problems this time. smile.gif
Next time I encode a video I should try 1.25 and see whether that's stable.thumb.gif

Hi there

Temps with 1.28v are same or they bit worse ?

If they're sane then I would try to bit lower like by 0.010mV or go by 0.005mV which should be good if you can lower vCore

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

They were indeed a little worse, peaking at 51°C. The fans didn't ramp up though. I manually set the CPU fan from 300rpm to 800 and the temp dropped by 5-6 degrees.
Considering that the processor was working really hard (harder than the ASUS benchmark) I think that's a good temperature. I could probably drop the temperature further by lowering the vCore again and/or by setting up fan curves and stuff (that however doesn't really work as of now since the ASUS FanXpert software and UEFI don't let me lower the rpm of the case fans below 1400. The only way is manipulating the FanStore.xml which FanXpert uses for the profiles).

I'm happy for now.smile.gif The best thing is that the temperature spikes are gone. That was my main concern at first.biggrin.gif
I just hope SpeedFan gets an update sometime so that it also supports my motherboard. Ooooor I could still buy a fan controller for better fan control. tongue.gif

Ooooor I could still buy a fan controller for better fan control. tongue.gif

Hi there

Those temps are still very good, yes by tweaking the vCore and fans you should have better temps on yours

Still don't know why you can't control fans on case as you should

Yes during the rendering yours temps can increase, this I know,in normal works my CPU temp on PKG never goes above 42°C on PKG,my fans are running on case at 700RPM and CPU fans running at 800-850RPM as most, during very hard rendering in 3DS Max my fans will ramp up to 1280-1340RPM and fans you can hear at those RPM,but my case fans still running at 700-850RPM as most, only exhaust fan is running higher speed at 1050RPM

All case fans and GPU fans are controlled by Phobya fan controllers, check Phobya MaxGuide10 which can control up to 10 fans, but only downside is don't have display

Assume you have Phanteks case and you are using their fan controller,I know on some MB you need to have plugged this controller in CPU fan header, this has been my case with ASRock and previous Asus Z97 Maximus Gene as Phanteks PWM controller won't work as should and won't control fans as I wanted

Did you tried that, plug in Phanteks fan controller in CPU fan header on MB and plug CPU fans on other PWM header

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura
