[IPH] A Design Defect is Plaguing Many iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Units - Page 5

The 4S is still the pinnacle of the iPhone.

Apple has slightly lost it's way over the past few years.

At least Apple's support is miles better than Samsung's.

I guess if it's not AMD/Nvidia or AMD/Intel, it's going to be Apple/Samsung. tongue.gif

Cmon guys, everyone has a budget and preference. Why fanboy over all these greedy companies?

It's not hard. It's called the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact! :-P

As a Z1 Compact owner, I'm not even sure I want to upgrade from this phone, it's just that good. Although I do want to wait for a Z6 Compact, because the X and XA don't have waterproofing, and we're on the cusp of a storage upgrade where phones use SSDs rather than plan old eMMC memory.

So, my brothers' phone is suffering from the gray bar and 'touch disease' that's happening to quite a few iphone 6 units.
Is there anything he can do? Applecare keep replacing his screen, but obviously that's not the problem. Is there a class action lawsuit or something of the sort?

Although he's not reconsidering his fanaticism for iphones. He's gone something like 2-3 generations with every iPhone he's bought had some kind of strange problem.

Also to those who love Samsung &/or have a Note 7 - be sure to get a screen protector/tempered glass on that thing. GG5 is a 3 on Mohs scale of hardness = keys or virtually anything harder than a fingernail is going to scratch the hell out of your screen!

tell them what the issue is and have the whole thing replaced.

I doubt Apple will re-flow a chip. Some good repair shops can.

Corning actually replied to this, it was material transfer from the soft pick to the hard glass. They pointed out that to be even called glass it needs to be a hardness rating of 6 or more, and it's quite silly to assume that GS5 would have anything less then 6.

This is unfortunate, and hopefully Apple takes a stance (like the unibody Macbook's that they replaced for free). I like both Android and iOS, but Apple support has been greater than anything Android related - Samsung included - for my family and friends. I would LOVE a slightly more open iOS platform, or an Samsung level hardware with pure AOSP, but neither are likely to happen anytime sad-smiley-002.gif.

I don't know how I feel about the response. It seems to me like avoiding the question - if it's simply the case that there is material left behind by the pick, why is not like that with literally every other phone that the specific youtuber JerryRigEverything has tested?
Not only that - but if it was residue that was left behind by the pick, then why didn't it rub off when he used a microfiber cloth to wipe the screen clean?

I'm not buying it until I see concrete evidence. Both my parents have Note 7's and until I see something crystal clear on either side, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

They did answer both your questions if you read the whole article, but regardless I'd be skeptical too. Which is why I'm personally running my Note 7 with no screen protector to see if I get anything worse than my Note 4. So far nothing.

Yes thats the smart thing to do. Id put plastic screen protectors over both of them.

To be honest with all of you guys. The latest batch of smartphones has been rather stale. Everything pretty much uses snapdragon 820, which is a much superior chip to the 808 and 810 from a user standpoint. Phones run cooler and faster.

Similarly you can't really compare iPhones directly to androids. They have such a loyal following and philosophy that you either use it or you dont. Personally I have both an iPhone and an Android. I tend to use my iPhone more for calls, texts, and other "business-related" stuff. I use my LGV10 a lot more for media consumption though. Androids are simply much better than iPhones for media consumption.
