Gtx 1080 strix got to 95c, 203 Far

Hi all,

I bought a strix 1080 and set a custom fan profile so when pc starts up it uses that.

Well im playing gta v open gpu z. And its running at 1300 mhz at a mmassive 95c. The fans are even spinning yet the profile is active.

I quickly restarted pc and it seems to be ok.

Question is- Is it pissible that temp damaged or degraded the core to now cause shadow artefacts in games or any anomaly while playing. (Im sure the wticher 3s shadows look messed up now but could be wrong)

That's crazy it got that hot. It is possible that the card could have been damaged but if it got that hot its possible the cooler was already defective. Have you been experiencing artifacts In all of your games, unexplained driver crashes, etc..?

Fan wasnt spinning at all, I had a custom profile in gpu tweak 2. And it didnt kick in. I bought the card 4 days ago and its been working I just dont like how it only turns on at 60 c.

So I deleted gpu tweak and setup a custom profile for msi afterburner and its working well. I was just paranoid it caused damage.

Some shadow problems in witcher, but they may have already been there and i was marvelling and the graphics and frame rate to much to notice.

I've had the GPU core logged at 96C before. Funnily enough it was a Strix VBIOS x flash and I suspect the fan wasn't running properly but don't know for sure. Not a huge load either, just some Skyrim.

96C is supposed to be the hard throttle limit (half clocks IIRC) and 99C is supposed to be the shutdown temp, never quite got that far though.

If your not experiencing any problems then the cards most likely OK.
