[AOTFB] Duke Nukem Website Teasing An Announcement - Page 3

If they put the same love that Id put into Doom, i'll gladly dip back into Duke Nukem. Absolutely loved Duke Nukem 3D on PC back in the day. I also had the expansions "Life's a beach" and "Nuclear Winter". Loved every moment of them biggrin.gif

Best part of it for me was my partners ( Obviously annoyed ) Facebook messages that provoked Pitchfords wife to defend him .. CEO Dev needs wife to defend him .. ha! thumb.gif

Still more duke would be a good thing but IMHO he's abit like your old, racist, overly masculine grandad that you just don't want to be seen with. Especially since Gearbox put all the pro-america crap into DN:F and gave him a "Man cave" an the like. Turned into the wrong nations sense of humour there.

Oh, surely, but as a 10-year old girl playing Duke Nukem for the first time it was all part of the charm. :p As to the pro-America stuff, I thought it more a self-referential parody than anything. I was born and mostly raised in London, high school in Australia, four years uni in the States, and finally back to the UK, and in my experience people in the UK are the only ones who take the rock, flag, and eagle stuff literally.. I mean, sure, there's a portion that do in the US, just as there's a portion of people here who think that Boris Johnson is an able statesman. But taken as a bit of self-referential sarcasm, it was funny to me.

Personally for what I'd consider truly unhealthy "pro-America crap" I think you've got to go to the modern-futuristic shooters like COD which glorify "regime change" and "targeted leadership adjustments". Those games are far more ideological than Duke Nukem with characters that are meant to be taken seriously, so far as one can take seriously the story of a COD game.

I played the shareware version of the first Duke Nukem from 1991 and also the second from 1993, both 2D sidescrollers like Commander Keen, but I never played Duke Nukem 3D. I was about to buy it a few months ago but missed the chance just before they took it out from GOG, so I hope this brings it back.

I did however play Duke Nukem Forever (after the patches and gameplay and graphics improvements) and I liked the game. The graphics outside are below par by a bit, but inside they are good and the game itself is enjoyable and the multiplayer is a lot of old school fun, like playing Quake 3 Arena, but with a few more possibilities (the shrink gun, for example, that allows you to both shrink your opponents and squash them, but also escape through small passages if you happen to be the one shrunk, oh, and the jet pack!).

I think the game was a victim of its own hype and successive delays and perhaps above all else, coming late also meant that it landed in an era of political correctness that hurt the way it was seen. The game is a parody, it should be seen as one.

Duke Nukem was obviously influenced by the pro-america time of the 80's (which I wouldn't mind seeing a revival again). But the humor and laughs from the game is what makes it fun. I hope they do make a new Duke game.

If only they made a movie...

Well, give the project to whoever did Doom. They got Doom right, it felt like Doom. Maybe they can make this one feel like Duke Nukem

This! After thoroughly playing and enjoying Doom, I honestly wouldn't mind another well done throwback. If done right this could be pretty epic.

Same developers as Duke Nukem Forever? In that case, do they actually expect people to even bother?
I loved Duke 3D.... However, I lost all interest after waiting ten years for DNF.... then five years after that, they finally released it and I couldn't have cared less. Now, this? Meh, whatever it is, I'm sure it wont be released until 2031...
