Can SLI help fps performance in cpu bottlenecked games ?

Hi.
Can SLI help fps performance in cpu bottlenecked games or is it overkill VS ex. just one gtx 1080 ?
Playing battlefield 2 mod Forgotten Hope 2.
80-100 players in multiplayer or Single player with 254bots can make fps drops.
I know battlefield 2 game engine is old and not org. made for that many players/bots
1080p or 5K resolution = same fps dips < 70fps
Or should I go for better cpu than i4820K@4.5Ghz ?

SLI with a severe CPU bottleneck can make FPS worse as the CPU now has to supply information to two GPUs.

Multi-GPU configs usually both increase CPU overhead and reduce GPU bottle-necking, so you almost always need a stronger CPU for them to be as effective.
