6950x broadwell help

Thread Starter
I've recently purchased a 6950x broadwell processor, just assembled my rig today.
Using an MSI x99 Carbon motherboard.
I can get bios to post, I've installed Windows no problem.
But BIOS AND Windows will NOT recognize my CPU. It states it is an Intel R generic 0000 processor at 1.6ghz.
At BIOS AND Windows. I am utterly confused.
I have flashed the bios to the most current available and still have had no luck.
What should I do???? Contact Intel or MSI. Because I am extremely heart broken right now haha

I might add-- after inspecting the socket pins on the mobo-- some look damaged, or bent. I tried to fix them but had no luck with results.
I figure damaged pins wouldn't even allow a POST. I am lost.

Bent pins will almost always cause some problems. Depending on which pins are damaged it may not POST at all, or the machine may boot up fine with something like USB ports not working or a memory channel not working. If you bought the board new or with any kind of return policy I would look at returning or exchanging it. Probably not something you want to mess with for a new and very expensive build.

Is the CPU being utilized correctly? You could run a benchmark like Cinebench and compare your score to what a 6950X should score.

Some are critical, others are not. Knowing what's damaged will let you isolate the issue.

I haven't ran any benchmark tests or utilization tests at all. I'm afraid to even touch the thing as it shouldn't be giving me these results.

I might add now that it has failed to post a few times, but randomly starts working.
I'm leaning towards a bad mobo-- but it's strange to me that it reports a generic CPU with 8 votes and not what's actually in there.

Thanks for your input
