Upgrade Suggestions: GTX470 SLI Run Dues EX Mankind Divided?

Thread Starter
I have a old rig in my collection, that I had spent a lot of money back when I was into these things, and I have not been into computers for half a decade now.

Its a 930 CPU OC'd to 4.4GHZ with GTX470's in SLI.

I am wanting to play Dues Ex Mankind Divided on a 1080x1920 monitor to its full glory or bells and whistles. Will it do the job? I dont see a massive improvement in graphics since I last played Dues Ex Human Revolution and find the requirements quite funny. But I am assuming the GPU's are considered ancient now a days? I am not looking to get back into my hobby but wont mind playing a new title or two once every while.

So I assume my CPU would hold it but the GPU's wont?
If not, what would? Maybe I could just pick up two GTX680's or GTX670's and put them in SLI?

Thank you for your humble opinions.

This looks like something that would be of interest to you

2GB vram seems to be the minimum for 1080p so you might have some issues playing with 1.25GB and also a quick google search there seems to be some issues with the SLI profile for the game as well, if there is one. You might be limited to 1 470.

I hope the SLI issue is solved, because I cant really afford any new high end cards, also my CPU and MB may be a bottle neck with those so maybe a couple last gen cards may be what I need? I still have monster water cooling equipment to behold. Just no longer the "up to date hardware if you get what I mean. wink.gif

If you sell it off and maybe look at the RX 480? dips below 60FPS but seems to hold around that mark

Check a few forums and it seems the consensus was that 670 SLI would be around a 970, which also means the RX 470 would be around the mark as well.

Maybe look for used 970/290/290x or new RX 480/470. CPU should be fine for the most part, unless there something Im missing...

couple of reference points

Though I cant find much on people playing with the 470 SLI configuration

thanks for the reply, smile.gif

hard to believe how fast and far these cards have come since I last looked in. 1x 970 is close or same a 2x 670 in SLI? Wow.. and 1x 670 was close to 2x 470's in SLI or something?

Wow.. thumb.gif

Will the GTX970 be bottlenecked by a 930 @ 4.2 - 4.4GHZ on a EVGA X58 SLI3 Regular board?? I have 3 SLI Slots, 1 x PCIe x16, 2 x PCIe x8

Yeah GPU's are progressing well. I think I last read that the 470 SLI was around 770 performance?

You should be fine with your CPU, though if your pondering upgrade, look into the X5650 as its a cheap overclockable hex-core xeon, most hit around 4.0+ Ghz on them.

GTX 970 would be fine with x58, you still got some life in your platform

Alright, I will see if I can pick one or two of those cards,

Also I have a EVGA SLi3 MB, it has 1x PCI E 16x and the two other lanes are PCIE 8x... Would that be a issue?

My knowledge isnt fresh on the subject, but wont lose much for 1080p gaming.

Just look for what ever is cheapest, 290 (non x) are really close to 290x in performance, but cheaper so it may be a good starting point

What is your budget for the card if you had to upgrade. The SLI 470's while being ~GTX680/770 would never achieve its complete theoretical performance due to bad drivers, scaling and overall no attention paid to mGPU systems by developers while building games. At present, with the game that you're considering, I'd get a non reference RX480. The used R9 290's could be better, but because of them being minned with and their power requirements, I'd stay away from them unless they're sub $150.
