Thinking about a new build. Suggestions?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about getting a new build. I want to upgrade to Skylake for better perfomance. The build will be primarily used for entertainment and some photo and video editing.
I was thinking about this combo:
Intel Core i5 6600K Skylake CPU + ASRock Z170 Extreme4
Corsair Vengeance White LED 16GB DDR4 2666

So the main question is are the any suggestion of how to cut down the cost without sacrificing performance and are there cheaper reputable retailers than scan in UK?

Also is the integrated gpu enough for my uses?

If cost-to-performance ratio is your primary concern, get a Westmere Xeon and more RAM. Use the money saved on a newer video card.

40 GBP cheaper update to non K overclock bios and you will be able to oc the 6400 via BCLK

but if you will do video editing you can get a xoen e5 1650 or 1660 with out without v2 and 16GB ddr3 and some x79 mobo that support it and it will performs better

Thanks for suggestions guys. Video editing will be more for my personal stuff and not too much of it. I rather not invest any more money in my current platform.

Then I recommend selling off your motherboard to add to your budget to make the bump up to an i7-6700K.

Good idea. I forgot about selling my current things. I was thinking if the upgrade to i7 is worth it.

As for those that's a rather big increase in price. These would cost me aroun 500 pounds for the cpu alone

I think I will go for something like this and if I have to cut down on the cost ill just go i5

There's nothing wrong with buying used items. This is why I suggested getting a 6-core Xeon for around £60. Single-threaded performance compared to Skylake is admittedly lacking, but the multi-threaded performance is better. Fortunately your motherboard has a considerable amount of resale value, enough to open up your budget to get an i7-6700K. I imagine you would want the extra threads for video editing and encoding.

If you stick with Skylake, it's recommended you go with a 3000 MHz kit. This one is only £75.

Yeah i rather stick with new tech. Thanks for the pointer about ram speed. Is 3000 mhz the best option?
