mobo - Asus p5n32-sli premium
ram - crucial 2gb ddr2 800mhz x4
gpu - nvidia geforce gtx550ti 1gb
psu - thermaltake 700w
alright so, installed an e8600 in the pc
everything boots alright, open cpu-z
cpu is running at around 2.3ghz (cant remember exactly)
went into bios and tinkered with the available overclock settings
and managed to get it to the rated 3.33GHz
cpu appears to be at a steady 50c +/-8C at minimal load, with and without bios overclock settings altered.
so i purchased a new cpu cooler, all around better than stock cooler
temps stayed roughly the same
i removed the cooler and reapplied the thermal paste, two or three times.
pee method, smearing thin layer over cpu , pee method again
so my questions
why am i required to overclock the cpu to achieve the rated speed ?
is that a safe temp for my cpu to idle at?
is it possible that im getting false temp readings?
i apologize if i am missing any key information needed. unfortunately i currently dont have screenshots of cpu-z, hardware monitor stats
