Seasonic units are multi rail if you are not aware
So if you had shut downs with your Corsair AX it was due to you overloading one of the rails causing OCP kicking in

Pretty sure you did not overload the PSU itself
People with multi rail units that overload their units almost always end up thinking they have too little wattage when in fact they have more then enough.

Actually I wasn't aware of that, I always though it was a single rail psu.

I think I will look at it when I install the GPU on it. I always get single rail power supplies just for the reason that Shilka has said on many threads.

Seasonic market and brand their units as single due to some backlash against multi rail units years ago
So they tell everyone their units are single rail when in fact they are multi rail

Its a bit misleading

There is nothing wrong with multi rail in fact its safer then single rail

In my case I literally got fed up with the shut downs, the computer would restart after 30 minutes or after 30 seconds, time after time. I told myself I'm getting at least 1200W psu, it was either Seasonic 1200W platinum or or the AX1200i so I could keep using my corsair red sleeved cables.

All you had to do to make the problem go away was to move the cables around so the load was spred out more so you dont overload a rail
No reason to buy a new PSU really, not unless you wanted to BIOS volt mod or add more cards

Cant recall if the AX1200i can do it but i think the AX1500i can switch between single and multi rail mode
I know the RMi series can switch.

Edit: as i said already overloading a multi rail unit will often cause the misconception that there was not enough wattage.

I really do not want to get an new PSU. I used to have 970's in SLI and went to a single 980ti Hybrid. I had SLI for many years since the old 7950GX2! I said I would never go multi GPU again!

However, I was able to get my hands on a brand new in box 980ti hybrid to match mine for $325. Hard to pass that up. I only plan on having this till Volta comes out if it is 10-15% faster than a titan XP! (Not paying $1200 for a GPU).

If I had to buy a PSU that would really take the savings away from getting the card cheap in the first place.

If I had to I think I would try one of the A2P to add a 2nd PSU. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009P98Q8U/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. I do have a brand new Corsair TX750 in the box. I know it is not reviewed well but I got it for $30 and just kept it for a spare. I could use the tx to power one of the GPU's.

While your PSU may no longer be cutting edge its still better then some stuff that is newer
And you as said before unless you are going to BIOS volt mod your video cards or the PSU is broken there is really no need to get a new PSU or another one

If you are unsure on how much your system is drawing get a kill a watt and hook the PC and the PC alone up to the outlet with the kill a watt on
Just remember to take the rated efficiency of your PSU off the number you get from the wall.

I have always wondered how my UPS relates to the actual watts. My UPS says 440 watts on the display when I play Crysis 3 at 7680x1440. How does that relate to a 90% efficiency ps? I have a network switch and my Amazon fire plugged into the battery/surge side of the UPS also. I will take those off to see what I am truly getting.

440 watts with 90% efficiency is 396 watts
Just take the number you get and say minus 10% with a calculator.
