I have the LG 34uc88 and while 34" is great if you have the room for it but in terms of screen size I think the newly announced 38" would be perfect. It's initial price of $1599 is way out of my price range but I think by the time I'm ready to retire my 34", monitors of that size will be much more affordable.

I think the new curved 34" with 144hz and freesync is going to be very interesting at only $599. Mine is only 60hz and was still $699 on sale.
The 144hz models must be 1080p vertical resolution if its only 599. No way they would sell 1440p ultrawide with 144hz for that price.

Why not? Theres no gsync to add $300 to the cost, we've had these expensive ultrawides for awhile now, its about time they become more affordable dont you think? $600 for a 3440x1440 144hz ultrawide with freesync would sell like crazy.

Because isnt the Acer freesync one with its measely 75hz refresh selling for around 800? And LG's current 75hz freesync 1440ps cost about the same. Would they really sell a higher refresh for cheaper?

Really depends on whether they want to gouge the consumer badly or not. Sure with it being 144hz they can price it high assuming its 1440p, but those 75hz 1440ps are pretty old now so it wouldn't be absurd to think they'll be replaced in the same price range with a better specced monitor.

yea the $600 34UM79G, doesn't have freesync, and has a flat panel, the $700 34UC79G is the curved one with 144Hz and freesync

second source saying the flat one is $600, and the curved 144Hz freesync one is $700

LG is gunning for Samsung's top manufacturer spot with such tactics. They embraced OLED first, they overcame OLED blue decay problem first and they procured 34UM67 which seems to me constitutes a higher grade of quality than every other 21:9 display available.

Don't get me wrong it would be absolutely amazing if we could soon buy 1440p 144hz ultrawides for well under a grand. I just wouldnt get my hopes up for it.

Well, I had my OLED hopes up for Samsung and they postponed it. It is LG for me. If you see a display that can do this, I'm all for that, too.

I don't bring >60Hz displays into the discussion; they incur more interface latency such as the PG348Q which has identical performance with 34UM67-P at 60Hz.

You're right. It is only 2560x1080p. I think the non-curved model is also the same resolution given the cheaper price.
