Delidding a NON K-series Skylake i5…?

Thoughts on delidding a i5-6500…?

Planning a SFF build (in a barely 4 liter chassis) and wondering about ways to bring temps (and therefore noise from the CPU cooler) down…

Wondering what the combination of:

i5-6500 CPU delidded by Silicon Lottery

Enerdyne Solutions Indigo XS

Noctua NH-L9i CPU cooler

…might do for temps / noise in this chassis:

Hutzy XS Ultra Compact Gaming Case

Well i mean normally i wouldn't say there is a need too with a locked cpu let alone a 6500 but considering your going for the best possible temps it would be the way to go for sure. I dont know about the EK stuff though as i havent used it or even heard of it until now honestly but i imagine it would do plenty good in this situation. and the cooler is pretty standard too, seen it used enough and it does prefect for what it is. Hope this helps a bit.

I've delidded quite a few 6600T and 6700T for SFF builds before. You will see the same great benefit from delidding on the unlocked processors, as your temperatures will be running around the same as an overclocked processor due to your thermal limitations.

As far as the Indigo XS, I personally would recommend against it. You're only getting 2-3 degrees at best by using it or a liquid metal on top of the IHS instead of traditional paste, compared to the 10C+ reduction you get by delidding. I would stick with the best non-conductive thermal paste instead in this regard (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.)

The NH-L9i is solid, I've used them with great success in the past. Recommended.
