So what happened to all the classy cases?

Thread Starter
I'm shopping around for a new build, a video and photo editing monster. My teenage years are over and the obsession with multicolored LEDs and matte black plastic has faded.

Call me a hackintosh wannabe, or what you will, but I do think Apple has great artistic design sense when it comes to their products. In my opinion they are one major brand that is at the pinnacle of the "simple is beautiful" mindset.

So here I am scouring the internet for decent classy "non-computer" looking cases. Something I can proudly display out in the open that doesn't scream "WoW addict" or "Excel Junkie." I want something beautiful. So I recalled my two favorite case makers, Silverstone and Lian Li. They have some excellent products on their websites.

But at least here in North America every single one of their "non-standard" aluminum cases is either not available at all in the USA, or only listed via third party for an outrageous price. PC-V359 for instance--impossible to get. Silverstone Fortress FT03S: same fate. Lian Li PC-TU300? Forget it. I'll throw in some images of these cases to drool over at the bottom. And I admit, the second one is super-boring, but also very practical and durable. (Side note, an important aspect of this build is also portability.)

Simply perusing Newegg as to what is currently available and around $200 or less, I've found that there are extremely limited options for "simple" yet, anti-office-looking PC cases. What gives?

In Win and Phanteks. Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Tempered Glass maybe? I have a similar taste in cases, that would be my pick for $200 and below. Although my next case is bound to be the In Win 909 in silver.

NZXT H series has the super clean look if that's what you mean by classy.

That is quite nice indeed. For clarification, yes, by "classy" I mean to say clean. thumb.gif

I'm sure I would have found it by now myself, but I suppose it can't hurt to ask if anyone knows of any "clean" cube type cases on the market?

This guy is spot on. I've got the Phanteks Evolv TG in silver, it's gorgeous. I also had the In Win 901 for some time, and, if I need a slightly larger case I too would upgrade to the In Win 909.

The Corsair 550D is also a pretty classy case.

Case Labs Bullet? It even has handles for those "The boss wants me to move to a different cubicle today!".

Not sure what "Anti-Office" entails... Though.

I know exactly what you mean as I'm becoming nauseated every time I see that the "best new feature" added to any product line is "RGB LEDs" as if it was the mecca of custom PC building. Knock off brands used to put LEDs in places they didn't belong 10 years ago and back then it was so gaudy it almost worked just for the lolz but I don't need to feel like I'm at a rave every time i turn on my PC.

Newegg still stocks a lot of Lian Li. For some of their more obscure cases maybe check Performance PCs or other online boutique PC shops. When I needed some Lian Li parts I also checked eBay as some international sellers sell them at reasonable prices. As mentioned Case Labs being custom made in the US is probably the ultimate "not your average PC" case but the price and wait time is a bit too much to justify IMO.

I was still using a Lian Li PC7-HX until recently, the brushed aluminum is timeless though the square format is beginning to feel a bit dated. I went with the Fractal Define S for my latest build due to ease of installation and radiator support, its just plastic and steel but at the end of the day my PC to me is just a black box and I'm only looking at the screen 99.9% of time.

I got the Ncase M1 and think it looks very classy and non-gamery. Little spendy, but fits quite a large amount of stuff for such a small case.

Kinda hard not to find minimalist cases nowadays. 3-4 years ago when cases like the HAF 932 were more popular? Maybe. But now, a lot of companies, some new, are jumping ship to more minimalistic designs. Here's a quick list off the top of my head (mainly thinking about mid and full towers):

FT04
FT05
Phanteks Evolv and some of their other cases
Fractal's cases
Pretty much all of Lian-Li's stuff
Corsair 600C/Q and 400C/Q
Corsair Obsidian series, sort of
Cooltek W2 or pretty much any Cooltek/Jonsbo case - not available through US retailers. You can find them on quietpc.com
Rosewill Rise, sort of
All of Case-Labs' stuff
NZXT H series
In-Win's newer cases
