Exactly my pain...after 6+ years and characters in the top #250 PvP list in BC, I had to stop EVE...too much involvement is required to keep things going.
Maybe it is different with more passive "Careers" like trading or manufacturing, but for small scale PvP is bad, and large scale engagements was horrendous (hours and hours of prep for a single battle). Reason I left the large alliances and focused more on solo & small gang roams.

2006-2012 it dominated my nights and days. I'm "clean" since. Better off with far less cerebral FPS games that I can walk away from.

This is terribad, you get limited to native race skills and no T2. Its almost the same as trial accounts were, my 40m SP main will be chopped down to 3 to 5m SP. No thanks, probably wont be able to grind the ISK for a GTC while having a life.

Thats intentional, its supposed to basically just be an extended trial. Having free accounts with fewer restrictions would destroy the game from people making 50 free alts to farm things. Even with these crazy restrictions i'm seeing people theorycrafting whether or not it will be worth it to run a horde of f2p vexors with VMs to farm anoms.

Also, why is everyone else in this thread so fixated on highsec mining? Don't do that. It is one of the most boring and least profitable ways to make money in the game.

New players leave in droves due to things like that.

If you do stick around and eventually join a Corp/Alliance/Coalition then you can be damn sure theres people ready and willing to gank you in high sec. The tables turn and high sec becomes the least safe area to be in...

What? You clearly aren't aware of all the types or reasons for ganking in high sec. I only would hold off from ganking alts who were known to be in my alliance, or characters actually in one of the corps. Other than that, I would smart bomb anything I could kill where the cargo would make the risk worthwhile.

I am a darn good fleet miner, I ran 4 hulks and an orca and they warped in and took 2 hulks out before I could get away. they are VERY VERY good at ganking.

You are talking about low-sec mining, or null? That doesn't sound like high-sec situations to me unless you had a declared war on your corp.

I'm trying to figure that out as well.. mining is like the worst type of grinding out there... passive L4's in a 0.5 would generally beat mining by a long shot..

It really depends on the current situation in the eve universe. I remember Hulkageddon, the sole goal was to destroy miners, mostly in high sec systems where you are presumably safe. A cheap smart bomb battleship or 2 can pop a very expensive miner or 2 in a 1.0 security system, or at least that was the case last I played. The reason was to drive up the price of base materials so people could make more money. some people even paid for your ship plus a little extra if you provided proof of a kill.

Ganking is fine but doing it to noobs is pretty low and ultimately drives new blood away from the game. If corps like CODE want to gank, at least gank people who aren't so new that it'll make them uninstall and never come back...

There could be a number of ways to limit things. Just put a hard limit of usable ships and modules instead of gimping skills so hard. T1 cruiser or destroyer max, no t2 modules. I suppose limiting skills would have to come in to play with the market, though you could limit buy/sell orders and quantities instead. At least they have said that balancing is not set in stone yet.

People play to have fun and I enjoy mining so I was a professional miner, making billions a month mining for myself and my corporation. Those guys loved me for the amount I earned for the corp so to say Mining is a waste of time is extremely ignorant. Hunting down some elite officer for some uber 1337 drops that you might get once a month isn't great fun to me but mining ice for the corp's towers is fun so I did it.

Not sure I understand you.

Alpha state clones is going to force you into basic stuff. None of which are going to keep people playing for long. Even if you pay once and continue the clone progress into omega clone, it is going to "shut down" those things once you stop playing.
It is not like you can progress forward, and suddenly stop paying but keep on playing.

If you have an account and move from free to pay, you are going to still need to keep paying, still going to have to work. There is no casual way (unless you are economics genius) to get the money by just 2-3 hours a week.
You might find it interesting for the first few weeks, but the game as I stated, very much not "masses friendly", and the amount of stuff you can do in an alpha close is extremely limited. It is not like you can make an alpha close and in 2-3 weeks go into null to join the big battles. Most likely you will not be able to do at all.

actually you can, a guy over on eve reddit made a fit for caracals used in null and you can get really good and cheap fit for a meta fit caracal. 270dps and 30k+ ehp. nothing special but not that bad if you get few wings of these ships
