I miss the ad-hoc small-gang roams around the hood, I miss the epic 100-man cruiser battles with logi and e-war, I miss the Jabber pings and sharing killmails and meta banter, and I even miss wasting hours in pyfa just planning better fits that would give me a better chance in battle.

EvE being a microcosm of real life is truly a double-edged sword though. On one hand, it creates the environment that allows for people to have truly amazing experiences that you would never have imagined to be possible over TCP. But the dark side of it is that it draws you into sacrificing countless hours of your real life for the pursuit of some virtual currency that won't feed you or put a roof over your head or allow you to pursue other experiences outside the game.

Well, here's hoping EvE will continue to entertain new generations of players for another few decades, until the day that I retire and have time and money to resub and BLAP THE SHINIES again!

I miss EVE like crazy too but I won't go back to it, it's a full time job.

I am a darn good fleet miner, I ran 4 hulks and an orca and they warped in and took 2 hulks out before I could get away. they are VERY VERY good at ganking.
Well I guess you got me there, I don't mine at all so I can't speak to that. I am doing mostly FW nowadays, I have three accounts, and when I do make isk I am running all three accounts, but in all fairness if I did die in a FW site, I wouldn't call it a gank, and I call it the price of doing FW sites. I have lived everywhere, and done just about everything for isk(minus mining, or making drugs). This includes AFK freight/logistics, and never been ganked. I am not saying it doesn't happen, I just avoid doing things that make me a tempting target. Three hulks, and an orca is perhaps a tempering target(don't know, never mined so couldn't give a breakdown of isk value versus EHP of a fully fit hulk to save my life).

Hulks are the best ganking target out of all the mining ships, they are expensive, have low ehp and can be easily taken out with a single catalyst with decent skills. If he had used properly fit skiffs then nobody would have bothered him, although if they had the numbers they might go for the orca, but an orca with a damage control and some hull rigs is very difficult to take out. I don't understand all this whining about getting ganked, its risk vs reward. Hulks mine a bit faster but have a much higher chance of getting ganked than other mining ships. If you don't want to get ganked, don't use hulks. If you want to use them so bad, orbit the asteroid so they can't easily get a warp in on you and pay attention to who is in local. Maybe use the cheaper mining ships which are less than 1/10 the price and 90% as effective, makes you less of a target and if something does happen you can easily replace them. Mining in higher security space also makes it hard for them to take you out. Of course there is always a chance of something happening, that is what makes the game thrilling and draws many players to it, but with some knowledge of game mechanics and some common sense you can reduce the risk to practically zero.

I don't know the current IG value of plex, but a couple hundred million is quite capable to farm up in a few hours of missioning.

Pointless argument really.
If you already have an account which can self sustain 2 accounts, what is the point of making a free account which can't really do much beside being a human meat shield for big fleets?
At the same point you can just do another character on the same account and give it a few limited skills. Pointless to make another account for such a trivial thing.

Plex atm cost 1B, and it fluctuate. If people stop buying plex and play for free instead of keeping some accounts on, you are going to see plex prices sky rocket up, since less come into the market, still same people trying to buy them.

Hulks can be easily fitted to hold vs a couple of ships until concord shows up. With the right fit and some implants, you can break the 40K ehp without much of a problem. And if you really want, you can do 50K without sacrificing much.

I used to mine for a year or so in the several years I played the game. 4-5 hulks, orca and a freighter to pick up the ores, I got through several suicide ganking attempts from a known corp before they gave up (I never lost a ship), just by being both smart and fit the ships correctly, even letting one or two of them test it before they tried to bring much bigger groups. I actually made friends with a few of their leaders eventually, and they bought my stuff for 5% over the market and delivering it to a not so far high sec station, which saved me a lot of trouble, and provided some consistent decent income, and protection (but not trying to blow up my ships).

There are many ways to do mining. Some of them requires you to not be afk and to be a bit smart about it.
And yes, when issues arise, switching to a skiff and going to 100K ehp helps by making yourself an unworthy target, but in 99% of the time, it is not needed at all.

if you play a game for 14 days then maybe, just maybe, it's because you like it and it's worth at least subscribing to additional month to see what else is there. it's just $15 or so, not exactly life or death decision. i mean how long do you honestly expect free trial to be, a year?

And the whole "you need multiple accounts" thing doesn't really apply until/unless you are flying capitals.

I do fly caps, honestly have no idea where my chimera is currently docked. Ignoring cyno alts for the moment, if you do any sort of low/null pvp you need alts in systems or baiting.. or if you're probing for escalations in low or null.. you can't do it with a single ship.. except for some really weird and stupidly expensive tengu builds (when I quit).

All of this is predicated on at least 4 year old knowledge of the game, so things might be wildly different now, regardless I would find it very difficult to believe the mechanics have changed so much that you aren't at an extreme advantage having at least one additional game client open while playing.

My old main is probably quite capable of sustaining the ISK income to keep all 3 accounts active, and continue to grow my proverbial stack of isk. The issue becomes the time required to acquire said isk.. while being fun it simply is not worth my time to invest hours on hours farming for IG pennies, and I'm not looking to put up 48$/mo to play for maybe a total of 6 hours I squeeze away from RL.

14 days is enough time for you to come back to eve after rage quitting when you finally stopped mining asteroids and realize that you honestly dont know anything about the game...
