nvidia users have been dealing with flickering at 144hz too since pascal's launch. its completely random. not all suffer from it but a good portion and nvidia doesn't have a fix insight.

Yeah... it affects many users... AMD or nVIDIA. Luckily.. I have zero, and I mean zero, issues with any game. Heck... if a game is DX11, and does not have a CFX profile, I make my own profile and I end up with zero flickering or tearing and near-perfect scalability 9.9/10 times.

I got CFX working in Paragon rather easily and I am getting 100% GPU usage from both of my R9 290x's. All I needed to do was create a custom profile... no big deal.

What is the reason my BF1 does not fully load my card. I do not have to even look at usage to know they are not being pushed. They are running ~ 10C cooler compared to games that push them 99%.

The game may not be properly threaded under DX11. I have yet to try BF1 but my guess is that most of the emphasis (for Multi-threaded rendering) was made with the DX12 variant of the game while the DX11 variant likely has very little CPU usage, if run across many cores, but the primary thread is likely at 50%+.

Paragon had the same issue, only 25% of the CPU is used under Paragon and most of that is my CPUs primary core (57% usage on the primary CPU thread). If a game hits the primary core hard, and leaves the other cores idling, then it generally will not scale properly with Crossfire as Crossfire needs even more CPU time (of the primary CPU thread) in order to feed two, three or four separate GPUs.

That's the AMD DX11 overhead issue (caused by a lack of a multi-threaded DX11 driver) rearing its ugly head.

I simply played with the Crossfire profiles and created a profile which allows me a continuous 99% usage across two GPUs under Paragon. The same could be possible for BF1. I would have to test it out.

Must be random then. I've had a few Pascal cards here over the last few weeks and with 144 Hz g-sync it was flawless.

I guess some people just have luck on their side.

How does one make this custom profile/ what are your settings. I play paragon as well thumb.gif

I think I got it working somewhat, I managed to get into the game settings for crimson and scanned for games which then added bf1 beta. My fps had a noticeable bump, but using GPU-z was sort of fruitless as my secondary card is stuck at 100% usage constantly with this driver for some reason frown.gif Also, the game will run pretty smoothly and then for about a minute or 2 the frametimes enter a reaaaaaally spiky period on both CPU and GPU...

I am playing at 4K and fps is not ideal. I think it's all GPU at this resolution.

Have you tried using the AFR Friendly CrossfireX profile in the AMD drivers for the game?

Forcing this option on, sometimes works to resolve the spiky frame rate issue.

Will try and report back, though, it is odd that I just launched bf1 again trying to use the "AMD defined profile" and there was graphical glitches galore with black boxes etc... so I reset the profile thinking it would be like it was before but it's doing the same thing frown.gif ... was playing on high settings at like 100+ fps 1440p before, and now its all glitchy and like 70fps......

Yeah, you have to set it to default mode, save and then reboot the PC sometimes.
