[AMD] Crimson 16.8.3 (31/08/2016) - Page 5

When the r9 290x first came out, the versions of GPU-Z that were out would always lock the card in 3D clocks whenever you ran it and would keep it there. This would also cause games to take up to 20 seconds to load. The author of GPU-Z said this was caused by GPU-Z accessing an "improper" register on the card. He released a version of GPU-Z shortly after which fixed this problem.

It's worth noting that "GPUTool" (GPUtool_CPT1.exe) artifact tester STILL causes this to happen to this day. GPUtool is also known as "Furmark Lite", as it stresses the card to 100%, without causing absurd temps like furmark causes, and it can test for some artifacts. If you run it, the card gets locked at 3D core speeds, won't downclock the core anymore (the memory does downclock), and games start taking forever to initialize.

Are you on Windows 10? I heard the Sleep Mode in Windows 10 does weird things to the GPU. It's not same problem as you but check AdoredTV on YouTube. He lost some FPS after waking up the PC.

I'm on 10 and have had sleep disabled for a few months. Don't think it's that. I have noticed that the card initializes its driver differently now with 16.8.3. I was getting a pink flash right before the login screen and starting games before, now it's a yellow flash. So they did change how they initialize the card. It's just not all the way right yet. That would affect coming back from sleep too. I haven't had either problem in several days. I've been having more of a hardware issue with my video memory. My card just does not like geothermal valley in ROTR, DX12 and HBAO+. I get flashing and pixelization shimmer around the edges of rocks and water. It's really annoying.

Maybe the one frame flash on driver initialization is just my card. It happens on stock bios on stock settings so it's not a voltage offset or a oc problem. I'm on the reference 4x 480.

So I tried BF1...

1920x1200: Everything on Ultra, DX11 and 50% resolution scale: 40ish-55 FPS in game... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So the GPU usage is low and the CPU usage as well.

The game is graphically... meh and it feels very "console-like". This doesn't feel like a Battlefield game but more like an Unreal Tournament title imo.

Oh and no flickering, no visual anomalies nothing of the sort. Crossfire is not causing any visual glitches for me.

So I left for Morocco back in Oct of 2013, came back around January of 2014, built my primary rig, left for Portugal in April of 2014 and then a direct flight from Portugal to Morocco in June of 2014. I stayed in Morocco until August of 2016.

In other words, I barely got to play with this PC... and guess what? All my games run perfectly. So far, anything I have tried, runs perfectly (maxed graphics).

I also tried Doom: Vulkan and although it only uses a single card... it runs flawlessly.

Why even upgrade?

It works fine but most of the time it stops working. Requires a system restart. Actually BF is not very console like at all. In Console a lot of people prefer COD because BF is so much hard to do a lot of things.

50% resolution scaling wouldnt be 1/2 1920x1200 resolution? if so that wpuld reduce GPU load and increase CPU due to DX11 cpu stalling or is this DX12?

what happened if you use VSR at 2560x1440 and 3200x1800? or 1920x1200 150%?

I am not having any issues with the game not working or requiring a restart.

On another note... I have been a huge BF fan since the original BF 1942. I have bought every single expansion pack and game ever since. I have a ton of hours in-game accumulated. This new version feels very console-like to me. I don't know how to describe it...

42% is the same resolution as your monitor. 50% is actually higher than 1200p by a bit. It doesn't make logical sense but that's how they have it setup right now.

I've figured something out...

Sometimes the game causes the MSI afterburner settings to go wonky which leads to low FPS. All you have to do is reset afterburner to default and re-apply your profile.

Before resetting After burner you get performance like this... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

After resetting After burner you get performance like this... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

These are my in-game settings (this was prior to resetting afterburner): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So I tested with DX12 and to my surprise... both GPUs are being used... and near 100% usage (compared to 77% for DX11):
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

The performance also shot up... now ranging between 60-80FPS.

Are you sure it's working? I tested DX12 and second GPU is idle. I also know because of performance. Same as my Single GPU.

290X DX11 1440p Ultra I get Average 65 fps. CFX does not help much. DX12 is a bit lower. If DX12 was giving 100% GPU usage you should be getting 100 fps +
