Easy to interpret the 970 numbers and why the Steam Survey is always flawed.
#1. Steam rarely asks users to take the survey. My Steam account dates back to the launch date of "The Orange Box". I've been asked to be surveyed 2 or 3 times since then. I upgrade every product cycle just about. Just think of the surveys I have missed. Multiply that by the number of Steam users. Then take into account that the survey isn't mandatory and you can opt out of letting Valve scan your PC and invade your privacy. Then finally think about how many people wear tinfoil hats...
#2. I wonder how the survey works also. Say You bought a GTX 970 at launch. You sell it to me when you upgrade to a GTX 1080. You don't get surveyed for August. I buy your GTX 970. I get surveyed. Does this mean that there are two people with the same card on Steam or does it mean that only I have a GTX 970 in the Steam Survey? I'd think that since it counts trends up and down; it still thinks that you have a 970 and I have a new 970. Thus the 970 numbers become inflated.
#3. GTX 970 was phased out and you can buy them for $200 or less. For someone with a GTX 950 budget, this is a godsend.
Check this one out.

I saw it when I had a GTX 980 after those come out. Since then it's not popped up once, despite several GPU changes > Titan X > SLI 980Ti, > 390X > Fury X.
Steam is extremely inaccurate, as according to them the vast majority of gamers are on laptops as well.
That's a lot Dual cores and Intel graphics as well.
and then this,

I had the steam survey pop up twice the week, filled it in both times, its means nothing.
And this guy Buys 4 of everything most of the time, he runs the Benchmark threads, but.
