[Corsair] RGB fans, new Air 740 case, new Crystal 460X RGB case, new Polaris RGB mousepad, CUE 2.0 software - Page 14

Also our entire Obsidian family of cases are minimalist, black aluminum, monolith designed cases.

We aren't doing this instead of that. We're adding to our portfolio.

Like it or not - some people REALLY like lighting. And we figure if you like LEDs, you should be able to pick which color LEDs you have. Personally my keyboard is a black K70 with the RGB lighting set to white. But I like the idea that I have the choice to change it to blue or red or yellow if I want. I don't have a rainbow profile or anything set up - though I like the knowledge that I have the capability to do that if I want.

Corsair has always been about performance AND style. We not only have the fastest DDR4 in the world, we make some of the best looking stuff (Vengeance LED, Dominator Platinum, etc), and we always have since the XMS and XMS PRO days.

The Glass 460X is a gorgeous case in person - for photos we stocked it up with LED fans, to show that it's glass and transparent. Glass is hard to photograph well so you need to show light passing through it or reflecting off it.

The AIR 740 - you can like or dislike the design, that's up to you. But functionally it's an improvement over the AIR 540 - it can fit more radiators, more hard drives, and we killed the 5.25" bay compatibility for a more efficient use of space.

You can build this:

Inside the AIR 740.

Feature wise it's an improvement and it's only $10 more than the AIR 540.

We still sell ML, SP, and AF series fans without LEDs. So it's not like you're forced to get them.

So what's the issue with variety?

If you don't like Pralines & Cream ice cream, don't order it. There's dozens of other flavors.

LOTS of people want to buy this stuff and we can do it better than a lot of our competitors. The MM800 RGB mouse pad? That's got more features than the Razer version and better software control.

It's not a product for me specifically (or for you maybe) but that's why we have the MM300, MM400, and MM600 products.

I guess I just don't get it.

Instead of "Not my taste, Corsair. I'll be sticking with my Obsidian 750D" we hear "Corsair you have forsaken all you once held dear."

Why can't we just be happy that there are MORE PC BUILDERS and gamers than ever before?

We all started somewhere - some of these new guys have NEVER built a PC before. Can you imagine how fun it would be to build your first PC right now? So many options for colors, so many great looking motherboards and GPUs, so many cooling options....

Man. When I started building PCs they were beige and beige only. And nothing was the same shade of beige.

So I'm just happy we have so many options nowadays. More options is always good.

QFT George. Keep doing what you do and forget the mindless and trendy haters. I personally enjoy having as much choice as possible rather than being forced to buy only minimalist stuff that some people seem to think everybody should want just like them. rolleyes.gif

Except that Corsair is no longer building with 800D quality...
I like the design of the 900D, but the plastic front kills the case for me. Currently running a 350D - which is essentially the same material choices and it feels cheap. While I am very demanding, I don't expect plastic when I'm paying north of €300 for a case.

That 740 is ugly. That and the lack of a 5.25" bay make it a no go for me. Also, why did they not put dust filters on the bottom when fans are clearly meant to be mounted there?

Also: the RGB hype needs to stop.

Corsair lost it's way a long time ago. The Obsidian Series cases, RAM, coolers and PSU were great. It's when they got into keyboards, headsets and other gaming stuff is when it spilled over to their core products. Every business has to make money, but when you attempt to cover everything possible, things start to share the same designs i.e. RGBs or case layout. I would keep the gaming and traditional component product lines totally separate.

I used to have at least 4 components from Corsair in my PC, but now I only have one. GTX H100i. I just don't care for the brand anymore.

You think it's about haters and people telling other people how to experience their PC. Wrong.

Corsair changed the PC market forever with the 800D. All black wires, rubber grommets for cable management, matte black paint, simple rad installation, hotswap with black PCBs, simple 5.25 latches and the list goes on. High quality stuff. I have one in my photo gallery, filled with OG Cosair components. The first crowd you attract is the crowd that supported you when everyone else where doubters. These are the people you are calling haters, which we are not.

We've seen them cater mainly to the gaming crowd with little effort put into the higher end components. The 900D isn't talked about anymore for good reason. We know where things are going. Are options great? Yes. But with more options comes less quality and innovation. More options usually to turns into more of the same.

I for one think that the new cases look great and are a great addition to Corsair's catalog. In particular, I was looking for a case similar to the 400C but with a tempered glass front panel, and that's exactly what I got with the 460X, and with RGB fans included!

As much as I like the case, however, I would like to make a few suggestions for improvement:
- The front dust filter mesh is outright ugly and damages the whole aesthetics of the case. This is my only serious complaint, but really something has to be done about that. Using a clean filter like the one in the Anidees AI Crystal would make the case look a lot better. It seems the people at Corsair's marketing department already realized that, as they removed the filter for their promotional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X62rQaFIFmQ
- I expected the front tempered glass to be fully attached to the front panel, so you would remove the whole panel to reach the dust filter, just like in the 400C. Now I've read that the tempered glass has to be removed to reach the dust filter (and I assume the rest of the front panel is not removable). Why was it done this way? Having the tempered glass as part of the front panel would look better as it would make the front screws unnecessary, and it seems to me that the design would have been easier this way. The screws at the front don't look terribly bad, but the case would look better without them, and removing the whole panel would be easier for the user than unscrewing the tempered glass.
- From the pictures I've seen, it seems to me that the glass used is a bit too transparent. The case will look more elegant with a significantly black-tinted glass, particularly on the front, although perhaps that's already being used and is just not apparent in the pictures.
- Being able to open the lateral panel with a mechanism like the one in the 400C would be fantastic, although I'm not sure if that's even possible to do with tempered glass.

About the RGB Fans I also have some suggestions:
- It would be great if they could be controlled by regular RGB output from the motherboard, like the one from Asus Maximus VIII Formula. Not sure if that's already the case, but I guess not.
- It seems the SP120 RGB have been designed as the "Low-End" and the HD120 RGB as the "High-End". It's a matter of personal preference, but I like the looks of the SP120 much better than the HD120, so it would be good to be able to get all the "High-End" features (like PWM) with the looks of the SP120.

I also have a suggestion for the design of another case, for those who find the 460X too flashy and the 400C too dull: you could replace the front panel from the 400C with something like the Obsidian 750D High Airflow Intake Kit. That would make the 400C look more interesting and be more funcional (better airflow).

Still looking for an air only case that doesn't have extra room for rad support.

Corsair used to be really on point with case aesthtics but I'm not liking this new batch I didn't like last years lunch box.
