Noob to IPS. Need help.

Got an IPS panel today. It has some blb/ips glow.
I am wondering what is considered bad enough to have it returned? I would take a pic, but the camera always makes it look worse than it is?

Thanks!

well I can't actually see what your blb and glow is. what monitor is it anyway ?

gaming monitors are always a trade between one thing being better and another being worse. there's no perfect one. finding a high refresh IPS with very little to no blb means you're very lucky.

Looks like you're having the "forum won't update that you posted a thread when you hit send and nothing happens" problem frown.gif
I almost double posted until I remembered this issue happening in the past...

Don't worry: TN has BLB, too. It only cuts back detail at the periphery, thus making dark scenes look black since the higher black level matches the dark level at those areas. Not a biggy. Personally, sRGB compliance would matter more to me. Better to have vibrant color than to greyscale as the whole at those orange/green hues.
For instance, if you stare at the screen at an angle, IPS will glow; however relatively it is at a much better condition than the color shift of TN where you see the negative image. I constantly have to tilt the panel vertically in order to avoid this. The screen has to tilt to the front, fully, in order to work as a TV. It looks isometric when tilted backwards, however it really gets to your linear perspective(you don't expect the top end of the screen to look closer unless you are standing upside down or in a plane taking a nose dive), once you notice that it is toppled obversely.

It's purple if it is "IPS glow"; BLB is visible on IPS because the crystals block the light more and hence the backlight has to be brighter to reach equal luminosity. Low contrast on blacks is a fundamental characteristic of IPS. If you want true blacks you go VA - alternatively, OLED which is the latest wonder - if you want somewhat good contrast on blacks you go TN. IPS glow affects blacks and turns them purple. I wouldn't mind, personally. You have a highly "readable" monitor. Texts and surfing on IPS is on another level entirely. VA's light bleeds in between pixels.

My phone makes it look worse than it does in person, but I feel like this is a deal breaker?

I'd say there's definitely something wrong going on.

I don't like its blue light... Can't we do something about that? It irks me to think you are a TS fan who doesn't know better to match the blue with the correct neon hue - which is burgundry, btw; not purple.
I told you, you will suffer the same with VA if you look at blacks on a white background(colour creep); yet, it looks exceedingly well at subtle whites on black.
You're supposed to face a white screen on any panel. The darker the room, the lower the brightness & contrast needs to be. Your sight and light reflex take course in different nerves(2. and 3.) just because you can see doesn't mean your eyes are accommodating to light properly. The darker the room, the wider your pupil gets: your eyes aren't accommodated to letting in too much light. That means more dispersion and your lens needs to focus more which is how you get shortsightedness.
