Difference between Corsair's AXi and HXi PSU series (question)

Thread Starter
Can anyone tell what is the main difference between the AXi and the HXi Corsair's PSU series?

Is it just the fact that (correct me if I'm wrong) the AXi units are digital and the HXi are analog units with built-in digital converters or is there any other major differences between these series?

I'm currently trying to decide which one to buy: the AX860i or the HX850i.

I have a few questions first though: why is it between these two?

Will you need all this power?

What store(s) can you order from? I think I can help you find PSUs that are as good and better that cost less.

I really like Corsair products. My current PSU is Corsair GS600 and I have it for four years now. Never experienced any problems with it!

I'm sure that 850-860 wats will be more than enough for my current build but I may be adding a second GTX 980 Ti in the future.

Fair enough. Are you sure you won't just replace the 980 Ti with a GTX 1080? By the time you want to get another GTX 980 Ti, will you be able to find one?

What are the prices you're seeing of these two PSUs?

Not sure. I might just replace my GTX 980 Ti by that time with GTX 1080 or maybe even something newer... It's to hard to tell for now.
But I still prefer an "overpowered" unit, just in case. I'm looking for a PSU that will serve me for at least 4-5 years with no need for an upgrade.

As for the prices. I'm buying all of my PC components in a local PC stores.
These two unit, the AX860i and the HX850i comes at the same price of about 285-290 USD each.

Also, with an extra 50 USD I can get myself the HX1000i, and as the matter of fact, I'm considering this option as well.

$285-$290? Holy mother of God that's extremely expensive. That's roughly $175 more than what you should be paying for these 2 PSUs.

Or wait, are you in a different country?

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm from Israel and yeah.. the prices here are extremely expensive.
That is one of the reasons that I can't just order one from Corsair directly.

Aw man. My heart goes out to you.

What are the prices of like the 750/850W EVGA G2 PSUs? Can you get any Super Flower Leadex PSUs (the G2s are the Leadex inside too, so they're the same).

Thanks. Well, I'm used to our prices here so as much as they are expensive in comparison with the US prices, I've learned to manage my funds to be able to upgrade my PC every now and then.

Unfortunately, for some stupid reasons, our stores doesn't import an EVGA PSUs so the G2 is not an option for me. The PSU brands that I have an option to choose from are: CoolerMaster, Corsair, In Win, Seasonic, Thermaltake and Antec.

if you are set to get a corsair PSU, the AXi series are . .better than the HXi. but not saying the HXi is bad; it's made by channel well and they are a good OEM. but the AXi series are made by flextronics; which uses a digital design as you mentioned.

however, the the AXi units are very pricey to begin with and to think that an HXi unit is about the same cost is some pretty serious price gouging. so if you have to pay, i suggest the 860 AXi unless you will look at a seasonic or, depending on the series/unit, a coolermaster.
