I tried different cooling paste on this card just for fun, i used Gelid GC-Extreme, and i want to share the results.
I had some great results with this cooling paste in the past with my gtx680, so i was curious to see what it could do with this GPU.

GPU clock @ 2150 mhz

Fanspeed @ 37% got 65c

With Gelid GC-Extreme Fanspeed @ 37% got 58c

Not bad for replacing the coolingpaste biggrin.gif

I tried memory overclocking and i got 9.800mhz (!) That is 22.5% overclock
+900 in afterburner

I tried 10000 mhz, but it crashed half way the Firestrike benchmark.

So i finally settled my overclock with

GPU 2139 mhz
Memory 9800 mhz

Yeah the TIM used by most manufacturers is pathetic generic crap. Unfortunately on most markets removing the cooler and changing thermal paste results in voided warranty.

Also have in mind the thermal pads, last time I change the TIM on a R9 290, the thermal pads break in two (part of them in the heatsink and the other part in the vrm, memory chips) doh.gif also of course the warranty issue!

Cheers!

On my Graphics card, (the msi gaming) The front is covered by a plate with the thermal pads beneath it. So the thermal pads will survive smile.gif

So the thermal pads are the only thing cooling the VRM's? What is the memory on your gaming x, samsung/micron? What is the manufacture date?

Which of the 1060's has the best cooling solutions (thermal plate or pads) for the VRM's?
