Unless case has a vent directly above the CPU pancake cooler exhaust is re-used by their fan, and every degree warmer the air going into cooler translates into a degree warmer CPU is.

Yes I agree, maybe he could swap a vented panel for the windowed one, since the case's panels are interchangeable

The OP distinctly states tower only, no top down. Also states he wants something less expensive than an NH-U9S. So.....the NH-C14S is the polar opposite of what he is looking for. wink.gif

Besides, I'm really hoping this guy winds up with the Contac21. He deserves one.

That's like comparing a CLC like H115i to an AIO like Swiftech H240 X2 or X2 Prestige.
Oh! Wait! There is no comparison between them!

Yeah, that cooler could not even keep a stock Phenom 9650 (a 95w CPU) under 50*C on idle. The stock AM2 cooler did a much better job.

Alternatives I have found worthy:

- Cryorig M9i (2nd pair of clamp included)

- Silverstone SST-AR08 (2nd pair of clamp included)

- Cooler Master Hyper 103

- EKL Alpenföhn Ben Nevis

- be quiet! Pure Rock Slim

- Tacens Mars Gaming MCPU2 (neat looking sandwhich setup with 2 radiator)

I am actually quite curios about the Pure Rock Slim, it is really new to the market.

hey OP, interesting list u got there, so what did u decided to go with in the end? planning the same build as you but due to geographic limitations, im only down to go either with cryorig m9i or be quiet pure rock slim. any suggestion? input by others are welcome too.
thanks
