Still releasing DLC while the game is still in BETA is really bad form. Releasing something that cost as much as the core game is doubly so. What they should have done (aside form not getting int to the mess in the first place) is make the entire "core" game more expensive and include the new content (pre release games often become more expensive as they near 1.0) and then if they where really had to then sell the additional content upgrade heavily discounted to the people who already supported them by buying the game.

Yeah i agree with you, calling it DLC and selling it while the core game is still in beta was the breaking point for me. It should of just been a huge addition to the current core game and have that price raised but I also believe this content should of been free for anyone who purchased the Alpha, I believe that should be the whole point. You have people willing to back your product in an early stage so any content you create from that point on with those backers money should be added content and updates given, for free, to these users.

They aren't a big developer. People should really give them a break.
Perhaps they should finish the game they promised rather then spending time on DLC to make even more money? If they are incapable of managing their own team and money properly, while meeting production expectations, they deserve to go under. Most new businesses dont survive, and it is no different in the indie world.

Indies rely on consumer trust. betraying consumer's trust and doing what ARK did is a good way to tank sales, which lead to bad word of mouth, which leads to poor DLC sales, which leads to the studio going under.

They aren't betraying consumers, get real. I'm sure your broken heart will mend.

They're an indie developer. They could have called the game finished last year and walked away with a nice retirement fund, but they didn't. They continued working and continued spending money to improve the game. Now, it's quite evident that they need a bit more.

You rather pay AAA developer prices to line the pockets of rich executives who stifle creativity and have a DLC ready on day one?

"Betraying consumers"

Investing in the creation of these indie studios is a self service for consumers. Don't be so dramatic.

The game is early access. Thats the problem. They are not finishing thegamr but working on dlc and releasing it while game still has bugs and not officially released.

So call it "released" in your head and unbunch your panties.

AAA "fully released" games are just as buggy and "unfinished", and have significantly more DLCs, on day one (of public access, for you overly specific nutjobs out there that feel the need to claim that a game that has been playable and purchasable for over a year has not yet reached "day one" due to being "prerelease" or "early access") no less, and most of them cost significantly more, and have significantly less content to boot.

Exactly, they were even giving away keys at one point in an in game promotion of finding boxes or something (I forget exactly how it worked right now)

The guys doing ark took on a huge project and like everything in life, predicted budgets can easily blow out.

The sad part is it's people who have their moneys worth in the game that are complaining the most.

Plus nobody is even making them buy the expansion at all.

Sure it kinda sucks and I can understand that, but the drama people are making it into is over the top. Was Dayz standalone a better investment? lol

Would they prefer AAA console ports of non original titles for the rest of their life instead?

Why would I call it released when even developer says it is not?

^^ My thoughts exactly, half baked bread is half baked bread. Focusing on making butter for half baked bread is foolish. Bake the bread fully, then present your butter/mayo options tongue.gif
