[pcgamesns] Star Citizen's Squadron 42 release slips into 2017 - Page 13

I'm still excited for this game and think we'll eventually get a good product but.. (most saw this coming) Let the feature creep begin!! CIG did ask the community if they should of kept going with the funding and they all (duh) voted "yes". Granted, some of these features are turning out to be pretty amazing. Also, some people need to stop thinking that their "predictions" matter. Especially when few were disputing it as it's more of a general consensus rather than a prediction. Lol.

literally nothing matters in the cosmic scheme of things, but it hasn't stopped you from proclaiming your excitement. Seeya back here at the next delay

The temptation is there to keep adding more and more features, rather than hone the game as a singular vision/experience.
Given the funds available, it would actually be good for the Devs to stop receiving Donations...
Here's hoping...

S42 is feature locked now, they just need to create and polish the content to the point that Chris is happy with it, which might be a while.

Given the number of games that should have missed their release dates but didn't I am happy to test how it works without a publisher forcing a release whether or not it is ready.

Feature lock is important though. I wonder what a publisher would say about the add in of procedural entire planets, a minor feature to add when half way through development. I wonder how many missions were reworked to include on-planet content.

Chris mentioned during the conference that there were still things to develop like AI and a couple of other things I can't quite remember because I almost fell asleep it was so boring. He's cast quite the spell over some. I don't see it even making 2017 at this point with any kind of quality. If this was a major developer like EA or Ubisoft with a 800+ people team I still couldn't see it making 2017 with what we've seen so far. Enough with the fan lip service and nonsense. I think half of the 300 people working on this are doing pointless PR and community updates, stupid modules and videos to keep the wide eyed naive kids throwing money at them.

I'm sure the game will eventually release, but it's going to be a fraction of what people expectations are. What game that promised the world ever delivered? I'm starting to get the feeling that this is going to make the no man's sky debacle pail in comparison. Eventually the money will stop flowing for good and they'll be under pressure to release something, stripping this feature and that feature out along the way.

You're right though this outcome is possible, another outcome is that there is nothing stripped out of it.

There's many possibilities and outcomes.

I'm not sure if star citizen has actually promised the world? This seems like a creation of the mind which is affected by hype.

They would be working on a sequel already if it sold well enough. I'm predicting SQ42 is going to be short, pretty and shallow much like the Crysis games. I'm just hoping what's there is polished and fun.

Short? There are 20 hours of cutscenes. The dialogue is something like 1200 pages.

I mean, I am Star Citizens major critic on this site apparently these days (which is funny as I probably have more skin in the game than most) and even I know nothing about SQ42 will be short except the gameplay.

But nobody wanted a short game when they realized how much crowdfunding became available.

I think roughly 90% of backers voted they wanted the game to expand it's scope, so that is that.

May I ask why you are predicting SQ42 to be (in my words).... generic crap?

I hear Chris Roberts is a perfectionist so this kind of defies your theory, unless of course his view of a somewhat 'perfect' game doesn't appeal to the masses which is also possible, but unlikely considering the lack of originality in games today he is competing with.

There are reasons a S42 backer and subscriber like myself jumps ship.

This is part of it.

NO amount of explaining (read; excuses) or doublespeak account for this.

My refund was processed and my accounts locked ages ago, and I won't be surprised one bit if more people disconnect as well.

Thanks - T
