LG 38UC99 - 37.5'' 24:10 3840x1600 75Hz IPS FreeSync Strobing Backlight - Page 3

Oh, and I'd imagine the strobing back-light mode is completely independent of Freesync and having an AMD card? Since strobing back-light is incompatible with Freesync.

Well...here is what double strobing looks like (60hz).
Minus the inverse ghosting of course! (stolen from blurbusters. Not my pic).

75hz wouldn't look much better.

Oh, for goodness sakes. Another great monitor with a low brightness. I normally keep my frustration out of this forum, but for crying out loud, I miss the 350 nit screens. 300nit is just way too dim for me frown.gif

Ya, dim screens are a bit annoying. I like having a bright and lively room and dim screens sometimes just don't cut it.

I'm curious to how dim this screen will get in backlight strobe mode. Something that usually drops brightness dramatically. If the 75 Hz is single strobe, the motion clarity will be pretty good but I don't think my eyes could take the visible flicker. I remember with my FW900 85 Hz was the lowest I could comfortably go.

I wonder if LG has any tricks up their sleeve.

Ugh this was annoying.
Ok I got some proper 75hz double strobed pics from my XL2720Z.
I had to set the resolution to 1280x1024 to get the monitor to identify the refresh rate, as the OSD didn't identify 1920x1080@75hz properly. It said it was 60hz and was single strobing even with SS off. And I have a potato Samsung HMX-F90 camera too.

Enjoy the eye bleed, boys!

LG could have done something differently. I guess until one of us gets our hands on it we won't know.

EDIT: looking at the specs though 75 Hz is only mentioned for Free-sync. I guess technically they could lower the resolution and increase the refresh rate to solve the single strobe issue. But I would have no desire to lower the resolution.

I wouldn't be surprised if this functions like the 34UC88/98 where it will only do 75hz without frame skipping with an AMD card. 75hz with an NVIDIA card causes frame skipping even when forcing it through NVIDIA control panel or CRU. It sucks because AMD has nothing with the performance to run this thing. Maybe if Vega ever comes out.

I will say that the 34UC88 itself is a beautiful display and mine had just a tiny bit of IPS glow in the bottom left and right corners - no other BLB. From what I've seen from others that seems to be the norm with the newer LG ultrawides. That may be good news for this display since I could see the potential for crazy BLB issues with something this large.

Ya, I have a feeling it will have the same deficiencies as the UC88.

Great news, TFTCentral has one inbound to review:

https://twitter.com/TFTCentral/status/773814830436319232

I guess we will know in a few weeks if it won't be for NVIDIA users.

Anyone else pre-order one besides me?

I suspect that the monitor will only run at 60 Hz with NVIDIA GPU's. If that's the case I'll just cancel my pre-order and no harm. I don't know why the go out of their way to hamstring NVIDIA GPU users to 60 Hz when the display has Freesync. Just let me run it in normal 75 Hz G-Sync mode...

Hopefully LG gets one in TFTCentral's hands pronto.

I pre-ordered from BH Photo & Video. And I am a Nvidia user. I am personally okay with 60hz, I am just looking forward to the extra vertical size of 1600P. They (BH Photo Video) say they should ship October 4th.

Ya, the extra vertical size/resolution would be killer. That is my largest gripe with the X34/PG348Q series panel is they are really just 27" 16:9 height monitors with some extra width.
