1440p vs 1080p ultrawide. Worth it?

I'm in a dilema with choosing a monitor. I have a GTX 1080 and want to make use of its power, while i currently have 2 24 inch, 60hz, 1080p BENQs. I have been considering a 27 inch 144hz 1440p monitor. But I am not really sure if I need the 144hz and I dont think I will really be hitting 144fps at 1440p in that many games. Is downscaling to 1080p on a 1440p monitor a terrible experience?

I would really like a Predator x34 but money is the main issue there. There are cheaper 1080p ultrawides but typically the concensus is that 1080p at that size isn't worth it.

Obviously I am mostly into gaming, WoW, LoL, CS:GO, COD, Witcher etc. But I would probably be looking at using it as a productivity type monitor too, minor video editing, writing articles etc.

Cheers

1440p. You'll have more overall screen realestate (2560x1440 vs 2560x1080) and just because you have a 144hz monitor doesn't mean you need to hit it all the time at all games. There are cheaper alternatives. You can forgo all the extra stuff to save money (higher refresh rate, Gsync, extra features that you won't use, etc).

I got a Dell u3415w (3440x1440p) and i can only say i love it!, went from a dual monitor setup to this, and havent missed the second monitor (well then it would only be when i have been watching a movie meanwhile gaming)...
I primarily play MMO's, and games like Doom and BF 4 etc,

My husband ended up surprising me with an acer z35,its really good. I went from 60hz 1080p 24inch. I'm sure 1440p is better but since I've never used it I'm not comparing my new monitor to it so I'm extremely happy

IMO Ultrawide curved is superior to anything short of 4K 2cents.gif
