This why we can't have nice things. An independent game developer, who is already suing a popular YouTube personality for slander has apparently now increased their scope to include any Steam user who has criticized them. Digital Homicide, the developer of infamous Steam Greenlight titles like The Slaughtering Grounds have filed a lawsuit against 100 anonymous Steam users in Arizona district court claiming personal injury.

Appereantely Valve has removed all their games and DLCs from the store. Turns out they are forced to reveal those 100 accounts in court and Steam is not happy about it.

This is the same company sueing Jim Sterling btw.

Excellent, they will go down in history as a perfect example of an awful developer committing suicide.

I guess we all need to watch what we say about crappy companies making crappy games from now on. I hope the judge hands them their butt.

Most likely.

With enough bad press already before the extended lawsuit, they weren't going to sell games well. So this is most likely the last chance to get some money before they kill their studio, and later try and open a new one with a new name.

Having read the title and reading the quoted paragraph, i was thinking how this all reminded me of those idiot indie devs trying to sue Jim Sterling for criticism. Then i read the name of the indie dev and i burst with laughter!

It boggles my mind how someone can be so stupid. If they had at least tiny bit of brain they would shut up and try to distant themselves from the BS they have created. Then maybe, BIG MAYBE, they would've been able to develop a new game in the future and people would not judge them by their past failures. But as it stands, these devs have no chance in gaming industry now

Given that Digital Homicide has been removed from Steam and is probably never going to be allowed back, I'm guessing this is the only time consumer reviews will ever be legally contested by developers.

Woah, I just did a bit of research and this "company" is a total mess.

  • Their website (digitalhomicide.ninja) looks like one of those pages teenagers would do back in the early 00s.
  • Their games are literally built using premade props from unity store, and most things dont really work. Like the most basic level transition is a mistery to them....
  • Then I found a very interesting conversation between Jim Sterling (the guy being sued) and Robert Romine (Founder of Digital Homicide) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyEr4sg9SCo
At this point what I wanted to know are the names of everyone in digital homicide so I could avoid games from their future studios ...

I hope I don't get sued

The problem with this is that because the people named in the lawsuit are consumers and purchased a product, they should be protected under the First Amendement (freedom of speech).

It's a controversial item, but I would be highly surprised if this case isn't thrown out before it even goes to trial.

Actually, I support the dev on this, especially after listening to the interview with that idiot Jim. I hadn't really heard of Jim until this and that guy is a complete tool and parasite. He's a bottom feeder and a sociopath.

The dev is new, has troubles, and is struggling. That doesn't make him immune to critique, but like he pointed out, it should be fair and reasonable critique. Jim appears to be specifically targeting Digital Homicide and feeding off of the negative air the he is helping to create. There are some points in the interview where Robert goes off and loses his train of thought, but he's still not wrong about Jim. I have not before, and can say with 100% certainty I will never support Jim or his channel over this. He consistently laughs and mocks Robert and treats it all like a joke since he has nothing to lose. He's extremely unprofessional, and no better than a tabloid reporter.

What Robert and Digital Homicide need is growth. Experience. Time. They're young developers with limited cash flow and a small group. Whether or not this lawsuit of theirs is going to fly or not is up to the court to decide now, but I support them. I've been a part of that community for almost 10 years in one form or another, and lots of small developers like this can grow and become great over time. That, or they mix and match and trade talent to create something new and better.

Again, the developer isn't perfect, but they don't deserve this. A YouTuber loses his viewer base due to another YouTuber trashing them left and right... they can go get a real job and continue their lives. A indie developer trashed by a YouTuber 'critic' who lives by the negative air he brings to everything as part of their persona, well, once he's done... that's his career. He will have to fundamentally change his career path to attempt to recover.

People are just entitled whiners and will jump on any bandwagon to be part of the crowd.
