is a 7950 to a 480 8GB worth it for 1080? - Page 4

Fair enough then, I wouldnt personally go for a 6990 these days as a lot of the time its going to mean youre stuck with a single 2 GB 6970, which wont be getting any driver support. I'm not 100% sure that there will even be official crossfire profiles that work on the old VLIW5 for new games either?

Anyway, there it is, nice to have a civil disagreement on OCN for once.

1. You need to be much more descriptive. there is a gtx 480 (NVIDIA) and the 480 from AMD.

2. There is a gtx 1080 video card from NVIDIA and you didn't put the P at the end of it to tell us it is a resolution and not the card.

I upgraded from a 7950 to a gtx 1060 which i think is about the same as AMD's 480. I am getting HUGE improvements. I can play most games at max now, even pretty close to maxing out ARK. I think it's worth it.

Haha thumb.gif Its all good bro I actually agree with ya 100% we just aren't seeing eye to eye I guess.. Though we are both dead on point.. wink.gif

Yeah I prefer efficient gaming these days.. new Polaris tech even the rx460 is just amazing for it's miserable specs. It performs amazing in my opinion.

Yeah its tough finding the ideal gpu these days on a tight budget. I think I'll be going polaris but did they offer a 16GB Nvidia card this year?

I love a massive frame buffer .. haha thumb.gif

Have a good one all .. And to the guy with GTX 1060.. thats baller bro, wish i had the cash to upgrade my 380x.. I need more frame buffer for my 4k gaming addiction (amd vsr).

At 55 fps.... I can hit a 100mph in a Nissan Versa I don't know why you'd want that Mustang. I can't do 55fps in a a shooter. I need more leeway when crazy action happens.

let's not go in to car analogies with me since it's a lose/lose situation for those who use them to get a point across. Keyword "I can't do 55fps in a shooter" it's your perspective of how you do your games. Do note I said 55 or higher, didn't say it was max 55. thumb.gif that is the absolute minimal spanning all maps including the levelutions that happen a long the way on 30ping 64 man servers. over 540 hours of BF4 with my 280x. smile.gif

Nice man, is the 280x stronger than the r9 380x?

It would be interesting if you ran a Monster Hunter Online Benchmark to compare them babies haha biggrin.gif

Hey!
I had a HD7950 and recently bought a Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury OC, it was at the same price as a RX480 and it is more powerful. At first I had my eyes on the RX480 or a GTX1060 but the fury is a bit faster overall and when I could get it for the same price I thought it was worth it even though it is an older process. (28nm)

I play BF4, GTA V, and tried BF1 beta with the 7950. running BF4 with mantle and medium preset for over 100fps and with the new card I can run ultra with the same fps. smile.gif

I'll run it and we'll see how much of a split the 2 have and we'll see biggrin.gif I'm running 1333mhz Ram btw, it came with the Mobo so not going to complain about it as it may effect the score a tiny bit smile.gif

it's all running stock, no OC done.

Update:

Created with GIMP 1080p Results

you have a 21-22% Lead over my 280x at 720p

@JunkoXan

Nice dude me too 1333 ram but its triple channel here so it's solid.

I'm on PCIe 2.0 as well, from what I've seen to beat PCIe 3.0 on PCIe 2.0... Means what fps is at 1175mhz on PCIe 3.0, can only be beat with 1235Mhz on PCIe 2.0.

So clock wise it's 5.1% more bandwidth on PCIe 3.0 aiding that extra fps on lower clocks.

I desoldered the DVI Ports on my 380X too, which resulted in a 30% reduction in fan to a 10% reduction in core temperaure, so its quieter and cooler. Plus I use HDMI. The DVI Ports blocked 50% of the exhaust vent, so I trimmed the mounting bracket to achieve higher airflow as well. I'm using Fujipoly 17W pads on the regulators/ ram and Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 on the core to achieve 1.45 volts and max clocks.

I did the same to my Two R9 290X cards which are yet to be repaired, seems every single cap on the 290X gets too hot breaking the solder for the caps resulting a black screen with no card heat. I'm going to replace all the caps and use Vapor-X Coolers on them once they are done.

Nice score brother! thumb.gif
