This allows a great deal of flexibility in application for the chip and DOES provide benefits at 4k - especially since the card will be able to access each 4GB bank separately unlike the Titan Xm which can only access 384bit by 6GB at a time. The speed of the HBM comes from its total size.

Oh! Like an SSD you mean? That I didn't know.

But... wouldn't speed come from memory slots occupied in total and not the raw size of them? IE 4 x 2GB banks will perform the same as 4 x 4GB banks and more than 2 x 2/4GB banks. Right?

Not expecting too high, but it should be incredibly competitive against 1080 if not giving NVidia a run for it's money.

Umm, that's exactly why i said 2x470 at max, because you are only doubling the BW from 256 to 512 gb/s. and CUs are double of 470 not the 480, also note more shaders don't always scale performance 1:1. ex. Fiji. so regardless of CUs and frequency, 512gb/s is going to limit performance at 2x470. unless it has more than 512gb/s.

I wouldn't expect a 12GiB version, unless it's some oddly cut down part. 8GiB at some point is plausible.

Really depends on how much the stacks cost.

Reviewer must have done something very wrong then. I have not noticed any difference in performance whatsoever between 2000mhz and 2250mhz on my 480. Eventually decided to test properly, and did a couple of Firestrike-runs. Difference was within margin of error (with the 2250 runs actually averaging 7 points lower). This was with the XFX Black edition aswell, so core-clock was at 1328MHz (which I made sure of it was throughout the run, monitored the clocks with afterburner). thumb.gif

If I were to guess, the reviewer forgot to raise the powerlimit on the stock runs he did wink.gif

I don't believe Polaris is bandwidth starved. They're more likely to be ROP limited than bandwidth starved, especially considering the new compression techniques AMD uses.

I don't doubt you. Just something I've read. We'll have to do more investigating as a forum. tongue.gif

I know it's just Fudzilla, but surprised no one else has appended this link to the thread yet; it's been a day and repeated on wccf as well.

Something like this could be the reason we are also getting reports of an early 2017 1080Ti release. I;m sure Nvidia certainly has better intel on AMD than WCCFTech!
