My G1 model have a PT limitation at around 375W with the original BIOS and PT at 139% (max value) in Precision X.
Modded BIOS can go even higher.

I had a Gigabyte 980Ti G1 too, and seldom hit the 120% Power Target @1500 MHz with it... Pascal is not the same thing as Maxwell, you should be aware of that...

He talks until the dust has settled around a discussion and AMD is the victor, but you won't hear that from him.biggrin.gif

Honnestly I dunno, but I guess that custom 1080Ti will have 300W+ BIOS capabilities.

Nope. He just listened what AMD was saying regarding power efficiency and the final result was really different.
But if AMD said before the launch that Polaris will be around 970 territory, the communication/teasing would not work and people would have said "meh".

Hmmm, could you share what official statement from AMD you believed were to be false regarding Polaris ? Just want to see that we're on the same page and you're not hyping it up so that the 480 was an 1080GTX competitor.

Yeah lol I really bought into the polaris marketing hype, and once it was released I was like........................... :tableflip:

Power efficiency, the main teasing axis is just simply not here. You didn't noticed it ? How strange...
A six month teasing campaign...

The purpose of this demonstration for RTG was threefold: to showcase that a Polaris GPU was up and running, that the small Polaris GPU in question could offer performance comparable to GTX 950, and finally to show off the energy efficiency advantage of the small Polaris GPU over current 28nm GPUs.

Even Fiji is more power efficient than Polaris with the Nano, So much for an historic leap in performance/watt...

We might need Vulkan for that, but the press demonstration was Directx 12 as in Star Wars Battlefront either way.

That slide from battlefront was polaris 11 running at 60 fps with VSYNC, limiting fps can yield huge efficiency gains.
Polaris 10 was made to replace the r9 290 and compete with 970.
It was reddit, wccftech and their members that hyped the rx 480 to the sky, they were talking about 1500-1600mhz on air at 120W TDP and competing with 980Ti, which led to speculation that polaris might even beat 1070.

Yes, of course, It's never AMD fault rolleyes.gif

Real life was so much different ...
Quote:
Power efficiency was a bit of a disappointment. We wanted to see AMD hand in Nvidia-beating efficiencies with its new 14nm FinFET process, but the reality is that the RX 460 doesn't stack up so favourably against either the low power or factory overclocked GTX 950s we have on tap. The RX 460 is only 10W more efficient than a similarly factory overclocked GTX 950, which is operating on a 28nm process. Meanwhile, the low power GTX 950 we have here moves ahead considerably - it's 31W down on its factory OC sibling and 21W more efficient than the RX 460. We use Crysis 3 as the stress test here where the low power GTX 950 is actually handing in higher performance too.

290 does beat 1080... *heavy breathing*
