No, this literally is how we humans play. It takes the approach of playing like a player. It uses human like control and interpretation to complete the job, that's true AI.

The latter approach could in theory be ported to ANY game... imagine your next game's being driven by this... each enemy AI is fed a 100x130 field of pixels at 30FPS(steady) plus info on its own kills/deaths/items and told to go crazy.

Would be cool. They could have game modes set how much reaction time the ai have.

For example (made up numbers): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Human:
Reaction to sight: 200ms
Reaction to sound: 100ms

Bot:
Beginner: 500ms, 300ms.
Novice: 400ms, 250ms.
Intermediate: 300ms, 200ms.
Veteran: 250ms, 150ms.
Expert: 200ms, 100ms.
Extreme: 150ms, 75ms.
Suicidal: 50ms, 25ms.

Also add things like common hiding spots to pre fire. Suicide could go by the individual's play style in previous modes, have radar, etc.

Haven't spent much time playing consoles, I did have a ps3 but never cared much for it so I cannot tell for sure if there are indeed hackers on console but I don't think there's nearly as much than there is on computer.

That being said, think about hack designers having an AI program that can be coded once and used for ANY game. It can learn from the person playing normally and then enhance some shots here and there without any hooks to the application. Good luck detecting that !

Anyhow, any research on AI is good IMO, nothing wrong with that.
