Hello again for those that have read my logs, or followed along, or got wet with me in the Previous Builds that I have entered on OCN! Welcome Back
applaud.gif

Once again ,for the 3rd time this Computer is for Home Use and is to go to the Queen of the House, My Dear Ruth. Never had I thought that when I purchased the S3 with Pedestal in white to match before it's EOL Date of 12/2015 did I think that this would be hers, but alas, I find myself in the position of building yet another computer that won't be mine
rolleyes.gif

As most know, I don't build the computers to actually use, I build them for Liquid Cooled Loops, full of water that has no destination other than the routing we allow them.

Snorkle.gif
I have no problem getting wet in order to learn the best path for least resistance when it comes to fluid.
lachen.gif

Here is a picture of the Case after it's purchase long ago.

The Original Plan was to build on the X99 platform yet again due to the price of the 6 core processors for that chipset. I have been extremely pleased with the 5930k I have in The Division as the 6 core processor has been overclocked to 4.5Ghz for easily Over 1 year at this point with no hiccups whatsoever. I was thinking of building with the 5820k that I just used in Ze Popped Cherry that was made for a client's wedding present. It's price currently is around 350USD.

What I have realized and had forgotten is that the S3 is made on the miniITX platform Leaving me only one option for a motherboard, which is the Asrock X99 E ITX motherboard for the X99 chipset. Now most would realize that I have used only Asus Motherboards in my builds, and that is for a good reason. It was the laptop I used in the military and at home for 8 years before Southern Persuasion was built to replace it for my work computer
thinking.gif

So Allow me to fill you in on the dilemma here. I have two options at this time. I can purchase the Asrock (Which I am sure isn't bad) that will go with my Computer Loop. It will match the colour scheme as intel uses Blue as the dominate colour to represent their company and I am going to have Blue in One Of the Two Loops that will be in this S3, Or I can choose another platform to ease my mind in order to get an Asus Itx Motherboard.

Allow me to Give you the Parts list whilst I think a tad more of the OP

Naturally I will have a ton of Passthrough's as I am sure you are coming to a revelation at this point:

Dual Loops in an S3 with Pedestal ?
blinksmiley.gif
How in the... is he... Oh My.. .Yea he is going to drill a bunch of holes... Dear lord help this man...
So here is a shot of my drawings of how and why and where.

These photos show around 7 passthrough in the bottom plate of the S3.... this would pose a problem as I have found out due to the thickness of the Pedestal edges.

The Case is 9.5" thick (width) and the pedestal has a 6 3/4" opening due to where the Radiators are mounted... I have lost almost 2" from the edge of the case (Window side) to where the PSU stands..... I am still currently trying not to pull my hair out figuring the dimensions of two pumps on the floor in front of the psu and where the passthroughs would/can be....

I am going to attempt to run the CPU and GPU in parallel for future reference, at lease "Appear" to be in parallel.

Everything in computers deal with math.... 010101010 and or building in One... Fractions or MM you name it....

A couple shots I took a while Back... Of course now that I have the log I will Provide more recent pictures.

And as Always, Enjoy yourselves in the build log.

This looks like fun. Go with the asrock! Its been great for me. After the latest bios, my rig is running great even with 32gb (2x16gb) at 3200mhz.

Guess I better join in, in as much as I was the main pesterer to get you to start this log . . . . .
biggrin.gif

Besides . . . I want to see you get 77 clowns out of the VW beetle this time . .

On the serious side, why the preoccupation with a X99 . . . .

In such a small form factor, most of its advantages are lost anyway . . . . like quad channel memory

And think about it . . If it was really a viable idea to have X99 in mitx ff, then there'd be a lot more than 1 mobo option out there.

I'd really think about going with an Asus M8I.

The Z170 will be a lot easier to clock and still keep cool with your relatively limited rad space

As I look at mobos for my last S5 build, I'm having a hard time even justifying X99 in the matx ff, since all of them loose something over the full size versions.

Let's get wet,

Darlene

Far from a Master at building, but I do put the effort needed for a great Computer. The Trials and Tribulations come with that, the stress and panic needed to think clearly while building

Voted yes on the poll, because I know that TCO will do it.

That Asrock X99 E-ITX board looks like a good one, based on the very positive reviews.

Enjoyed the intro, really explains the purpose and intent of this build, along with the usual sense of humor!
biggrin.gif
That's what I am talking about!! A Vote of Confidence in Ole TCO

Now that that's out of the way, I really do appreciate the kind words. This will be (What appears) to be my most challenging build due to the space limitations.

It should be doable, I've got 2 pumps in series in the main compartment of the S3, with a radiator in front of them, it fits, but only barely. Only mm to spare here and there. But I'm sure you'll figure it out!
I enjoyed your S3 for sure and am glad It came together correctly for you! Thanks for showing up as I might need your hand in measuring things for a 3rd time for me. Ill measure twice and ask you to measure again on your case for certain dimensions, of that I am sure of

You speak of the Asus VII Impact? Well... I see where you are going with this as I love the company and the Board... Full cover block option, but what processor to go with it? Can I get a 6 core to match on this platform/chipset?

I found it

Interesting.

Never have gone with the FC due to the fact that I do like to see the EK brackets and how they attach to the board.

You can't get a hex core for the Z170 chipset (Asus Maximus VIII Impact) . . . . but the fact that even with a hex core in the ASRock, X99 board, you've already crippled the platform with only 2 memory slots instead of 4 for quad channel, that you've killed any advantage it might otherwise have had, but still have the extra heat to have to deal with, all in a smaller case to do it.

I can run 8gb x 2 sticks for 16gb memory though

Not worried about heat output from the Memory if that is what you are referring to.
