Ditto, once you've experienced that sweet, sweet 144Hz gameplay there is no going back. That being said I was quite content at 96 for 2 years.

OP, I was debating on selling my 6600k/970 and getting a 6700k/1070 but I really don't know if it's worth it going from 6600k to 6700k. I do plan on selling my 970 though and picking up a 1070

Can you not just overclock your i5 more. Ok so the i7 is probably more future proof. However there is always something better lets be real. The i5 overclocked will get the job done.

I think lot of people try to make others suck at bf 1:-) spreading poor information.
64 players online, 1080p 144 hz on a budget.
144 fps in a straight line.
Forget i5 on this level. I7 6700 is needed. The gtx 1070 deliver, but with lower settings. Remember 16 gb memory.
If 85 fps is ok the i5 is in the game.
As mentioned gaming arround 100% gucks up intensive gaming.
Temps will play in with to high settings.
I run 144 fps 1080p low at 70 degree.
Use msi afterburner to check the data. It show hick ups and termal throttle.

All the dhit about "i run i2 at 10%" is pure trolling.

There is not a cheap way in to 144 fps bf1 gaming. But maybe less expensive building one. Be careful of warranty.

i5 6600
GTX 1070 or GTX 980ti

VS

i7 6700
GTX 1060 6GB

pretty much either i get a better CPU and worse GPU and vice versa.

i watched some youtube videos and saw the benchmarks for CPU on BF1 and most of what ive seen looks like the i7 does much better , but i have seen some that show that it isnt that much better than the i5 , so theres lots of conflicting information, but for the most part ive seen that the i7 is the way to go for BF1? maybe its different when the actual game comes out? i need some help:o

if your gonna play battlefield 1 most of the time and plan on playing multiplayer then i advice the second combo, cz bf1 is very well optimized graphically so a gtx 1060 will be enough but multiplayer specially the ones with big maps and large numbers of players will require a more powerful cpu, i7-6700 is multi threaded and most probably gonna clock higher, plus upgrading gpu is easier than upgrading cpu so consider your i7 a future proofing which it really is, yeah and gpu's gonna get cheaper as vega is expected to hit the shelves within 3-4 months.

so basically get the better cpu to future proof your self for a few years ahead and the cheaper gpu to hold u up to next year and then u can decide if it needs upgrade with new gpu's coming in.

one last word of advice: if your not strictly decided on buying an nvidia gpu, may i suggest an rx480 8gb? rx480 is generally equal to gtx 1060 in dx11 but mostly beats 1060 in dx12 and vulcan, rx480 performs better specially in bf1 and rx480 is mostly cheaper than a 1060 so save a few dollars, or else opt for a factory overclocked rx480 8gb which will set u for the same sum of money as a 1060 6gb and perform better in most games including dx11 ones.

consider those:
