If only CIG were a bit more proactive with community engagement, we'd all feel better about being a part of it. As it is, we're stuck on the outside looking in-- and that's okay, if that's how CIG wants to run things, but they won't even communicate that position. We're set adrift, waiting for some big ship update that may or may not come for the persistent universe, and may or may not be restricted by Squadron 42's fixed asset requirements. We're thinking that there's no CIG feedback on certain ships because these ships are set in stone for the single-player game and cannot change.

But, we're all having to guess.
You do realize there are weekly newsletter and a YouTube channel that literally posts multiple times a week right?

It's not a shell game. These are real people trying to make a huge game-- but it just so happens that the process is incredibly ugly. Any large-scale project gets ugly. Movies, business ventures, company projects, you name it, it's gonna be ugly. It just so happens that backers got a window into the disarray, and yep-- it's frickin' ugly. But what we didn't get, is any way to influence the chaos.

CIG's stance is, we'll show you what we're working on, but it's our game-- not yours. Various backers have issues with that, especially since some of these digital ships cost a *lot* of money. But that money doesn't buy entitlement, just a digital ship that you can otherwise get for free someday.
The issue is they needed public funding. So now people feel entitled for "gimme now" updates and gameplay. If this were a behind the scenes production done by a larger developer there would be no issue.

Every SC thread devolves into the same bunk.

Amen, I watch every episode of Bugsmashers, not because I understand everything, but because I have never seen a developer show and explain bugs, then fix them.

The problem is that something just smells fishy about this entire operation; something that the unprecedented amount of no-strings-attached money that Roberts has at his whim tends to breed. Too much temptation to spend it in the wrong places...

People get emotionally invested in any product that appeals to them. Be it phones that explode, or phones that bend. Cars, games, music bands, movies. That's why they're fans, because they're emotionally invested. So that statement is redundant.

So far there really hasn't been any indication that the money has been mismanaged. There aren't any wild stories out there about Chris riding around in one off special edition Bugatti. I think the real troubling part of the development is in the past. That part is what would happen if Crytek didn't release the engineers up for grabs and have them end up working on this project. The what if there is hair raising, as the project would have most likely folded by now. As it stands now, development has accelerated so much that that are milestones achieved monthly and released for public testing.

I, as a backer, never looked at my backing as an "investment", not even as "buying a game". I wanted to support an idea because I'd love that idea to become reality. Basically, I looked and still do look at it as if it was a donation.

The way they are selling ships in a manner like "Get it now while it's still hot and cheap!" is something that is problematic though imho. Because this manner does not really allow for a view like mine, if you back by buying one of those limited time promotion ships. A mindset that the current culture of preorder bonuses is establishing is not helping either.

are you kidding me? it encapsulates literally every single star citizen thread on OCN. The same content over and over in an endless loop. We are cursed. I think we're stuck in a time distortion

At least you're getting Mark Hamill now.
Ironically the majority of the assets being created over the last few years have been kept behind closed doors because it's Squadron 42 related.
At this point it's all a dozen of one and twelve of the other anyway. I have yet to see anything that's really strictly PU related, given that co-op is supposed to be enabled throughout the campaign as well.

We've only got two weeks left before the 2016 convention. Fingers crossed we get to see some big game assets revealed.

Can I add the global warming/climate change to that?

I kind of called this when they announced star citizen. I remember thinking something like "Bets on whether or not they ever deliver..."

I'm sure a ton of people were thinking the exact same thing. Big fat pie in the sky promises typically don't end well. Unfortunately that concept is beyond some people.
