Well those clocks are higher than the stock clocks of the Extreme Edition BIOS (1911 Mhz Boost / 1351 Mhz Mem) so that is good to hear that the normal AMP!'s smaller air cooler can handle the extra heat output. I will be very curious to see how your testing with flashing the Extreme Edition BIOS goes. My cards arrival was delayed to tomorrow so I will have to wait until then as well!

You are using the "Zotac GTX 1080 AMP!" card with the aftermarket dual-fan cooler correct? If so, the temperatures shouldn't be that bad. Just make sure that your temps do not exceed 85C or your card will throttle. As for any tips, I have not complete this process myself yet but I will try and offer some basic guidelines.

  1. Do not, under ANY circumstances, attempt to flash this BIOS to any card(s) OTHER than the Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! and AMP! Extreme cards.
  2. The BIOS you will want to flash can be located here: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/185008/zotac-gtx1080-8192-160616 Again, do not attempt to flash any other BIOS file than this one.
  3. Make sure you are using the very latest version of NVflash which can be found here: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2786/nvflash-5-319-0-for-windows
  4. Then follow this NVflash guide to complete your flash: http://www.overclock.net/t/1523391/easy-nvflash-guide-with-pictures-for-gtx-970-980 (NOTE: With the newest version of NVflash you no longer have to manually enable / disable your GPU in device manager.)
  5. Post before and after temperatures / benchmarks / findings / etc. in this thread after you successfully complete your flash. (Or report back if it doesn't work and why.)

Good luck to everyone attempting this! Just remember to be safe and to be very sure that the flash completed successfully or your card could possibly become bricked (unusable).

when you do that command it says that the video bios is not identical and the update process has been aborted

I try both of the 1080 amp extreme bios, no difference, same error




with the 1080 amp modded fans + liquid metal paste I am not exceeding 65c even in games that pull 260w, like warframe 4k all high setting

with the 1080 amp dual-fan shroud I was having thermal problem where it went to 70c

I would like to keep my card as close to 49c because pascal gpu downclocks -13mhz everytime it passes 50c (5c increments afterwards)

You might want to try removing the write-protect and doing a level 3 override. Although there is no guarantee that either of those will work. I have been doing some research, and apparently Nvidia GPUs have some sort of built in BIOS flashing protection, I have done a lot of BIOS modding on AMD cards, but never on Nvidia. AMD cards do not have such protection, but maybe this BIOS flashing protection is what is blocking you from flashing a BIOS file from another card onto your current card?

If that is truly the case then we will have to put this project on hold as no one has found a way around the Pascal BIOS verification checks yet. They were able to do it for Maxwell, but supposedly Pascal is proving to be a lot tougher to crack.

Lastly, this is a bit off topic, but would you mind sharing some pictures of the mod that you did to your card to improve the cooling? I am very curious as to what it looks like,

NVflash is not working with my card either.

Use the Firestorm app to flash it. (1st save your original BIOS !!!! ) And do not forget to reboot after flashing.

Alright, just finished my 1st test...

Settings original Bios:
GPU +250 (Settles @ 2050)
MEm: + 450
GPU Max volt 100%
Power 120%
Temp target 85°
Fan curve reached 80% @ 70°C (Max Temp 74°C)

3Dmark Time Spyscore:
Graphics: 7935
CPU: 4322


Settings Exteme Bios:
GPU +0 (settles @2025 )
MEm: + 0
GPU Max volt 100%
Power 120%
Temp target 85°
Fan curve reached 80% @ 70°C (Max temp 76°C)

3Dmark Time Spyscore:
Graphics: 7778
CPU: 4473


Note: with the extreme bios i could not put any additional Mhz on the mem or gpu because it would lock.

Need some more testing to see if the extreme bios is gonna make a difference or we are better of with oc-ing the original.

Hmm, I have never heard of this "Firestorm tool". Would you mind posting a short (but easy enough to understand for noobies) guide here in this thread?) I will post it into the OP and give you credit when I get around to changing the thread into a "HOW TO:" thread.

So with your stock BIOS + OC you were getting a graphics score of 7935, and with the Extreme BIOS you were getting a graphics score of 7778. That is only a small difference of 157 points. But yes, more testing is indeed in order.

I have been out of the Nvidia camp for quite some time, my last Nvidia card was a 560 Ti, so I am not up-to-date on all of the Nvidia overclocking metrics, but did you test the newly flashed Extreme BIOS at complete stock parameters? (e.g. No OC programs open and all GPU settings set to complete stock?) If not, would you mind doing that? I am interested in how this card performs with just the Extreme BIOS applied and no extra settings changed, as that is what I will most likely be doing on my system.

EDIT: Also, Alphacool just released a universal waterblock that is compatible with our Zotac GPUs now! @TK421 you may be interested in this!

Howto is quite easy:

Open the app.
Look for the bios button
Save original bios.
flash target bios.
Press y to accept.
wait till finish.
reboot
done smile.gif

Will do some runs on both bios stock later tonight.

BTW with this app you can also change the RGB Led colors. After using it i un installed it because i am gonna test with MSI Afterburner 4.30 beta. Ithas a curve setting For volts @ mhz. (press ctrl+f while afterburner is open)

Differences in stock and extreme bios. Both runs on stock settings.

Settings original Bios:
stock GPU @ 1635 mem @5000
Settled boost @1901
3Dmark Time Spyscore:
Graphics: 7295
CPU: 4463

Settings Exteme Bios:
Stock GPU @ 1771 mem @5400
Settled boost @1950
3Dmark Time Spyscore:
Graphics: 7758
CPU: 4382

Ofc extreme is faster... stock settings are higher. also temp is higher... with auto settings on fan the original bios goes up to 76 C , extreme went up to 78°C.

Think i am gonna run the extreme on stock for a while. see how it holds in regular gaming
