Firefox/Chrome writing up to 12/24 GByte on a SSD - fix inside

Thread Starter
Those heavy SSD writes seem to be the case with my M4 SSD 256gb from Crucial showing only 97% health , bought it on september 2013 !

To me it seems they want to reduce the SSD reliability.

After some digging, I found out that this behavior is controlled by a parameter that you can access through typing “about:config” in the address bar. This parameter is called: —browser.sessionstore.interval

It is set to 15 seconds by default. In my case, I reset it to a more sane (at least for me) 30 minutes. Since then, I’m only seeing about 2GB written to disk when my workstation is left idle, which still feels like a lot but is 5 times less than before.

15 seconds interval is just insane.

Thanks for bringing this up. Changing it immediately.

I'm also wondering if this is happening with mobile browsers and its consequences.

miliseconds, 1000ms = 1 second.

15.000ms is 15 seconds, same interval as described in the article.

set to 1.800.000ms to get 30 minute interval.
