Is rx 460 a worth upgrade to amd 7770 ghz edition??

Hello friends
Today my 4 years old amd 7770 is dead.
So i was thinking to buy a new graphics card.
After searching for whole day i have decided to go for SAPPHIRE Nitro Radeon RX 460 OC 4GB. $140 on newegg as it has some room for overclocking as compare to other models of rx 460 as it supports 6pin Power connector.

My rig:
Amd fx 8320
8gb ram
Corsair 550w psu
Asus m5a97 le r2.0 motherboard

So i just want to ask is rx 460 worth update to my old 7770 and by how much is rx 460 more powerful as compare to 7770.

Notes : i want gaming at 1080p with sync off , medium to high settings. AA off most of the games.
Target at 40+ fps
My max budget is 140$
I dont want to go for gtx 950 as rx 460 has better support for vulkan and dx 12 ( according to me) and it is newer also.
Thank you

I'd try to aim for a RX 470 as the RX 460 is significantly slower and not nearly as much as an upgrade.

Alternatively you could probably pick up a 7970/R9 280X for around $100-$120 on the used market.

LOL.

I would ignore both and look at the RX 470/ RX 480/ GTX 1060 though depending on prices and Freesync/Gsync interest. This way your card stays relevant longer and since you were running such an old card I figure you like to hold on to hardware for a long time.

I used to own HD7770. Good, quiet card, just nice for CS:GO (the game I play most) at 1920 x 1200.

RX460 alone is already a good upgrade from HD7770. But like what everyone said, if budget is not really a constrain, go for at least RX470, or even higher with RX480 / GTX1060.

Cheers.

Friends i am from india and here cheapest rx 470 model is $265 USD and MSI rx 470 4GB is $322 USD. Sapphire Nitro Rx 460 4Gb is 193$ USD . As i have told my budget is only 140$ so i was thinking to export it from USA. So it will be $140 + Delivery charges But from the core of my heart i also want to buy Rx 470 as it twice powerful.

Unless you need an upgrade right NOW, I'd wait then. The RX 470 is around 80% better depending on the game and is certainty worth the $265 vs $193 for the RX 460.

470/480 seems like the sweet spot for a lot of folks. If you can do whatever you can to save the extra cash, it'll be helpful. 460 is more like a 270 = 7850.

I'd go reference cooler whatever card you choose, the blower style.

Having the Sapphire dual-triple fans coolers fill the inside of the case with GPU heat is causing issues. Heat rises heating up my Hard Drives over 8 Degrees celsius hotter under load.

At least reference cooler moves all the GPU out of the case... Just my two cents.

As far as the best GPU for your dollar and if your budget is in the $150 range would probably be GTX 980 even I see them dropping prices like mad.

GTX 980 has 64 ROP's unlike all RX-series 32 ROP's, and GTX 980 has 170 watt TDP unlike R9 390X 275 Watt TDP...

As for right now GTX 980 is the bang for your buck card on ebay among other places.

I'd wait for 8 GB video memory man... Go RX480 with 8GB reference blower and all... I'll build you a BIOS that won't let the card fail on you and run cool & quiet.

Or On Your $140 Budget ... The 4GB R9 370 isn't bad... OEM Only R9 370
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AMD-Radeon-R9-370DE-4GB-Graphics-Card-for-Alienware-And-Other-PC-/232050007615?hash=item3607421e3f:g:08oAAOSwuAVWvqjc

Radeon R9 370 (OEM) 6 May 2015 Curaçao Pro - GCN 1st gen 28nm - 2800 PCIe 3.0 975Mhz Core 5600Mhz Memory
1024:64:32 30.4GPixel/s ---- 60.8GTexel/s - 4096MB ---- 256 BIT GDDR5 179.2GB/s

Its the same as R7 370, and they are amazing cards and can clock very high. Using VBE, stock volts is 1.188v and 1.200v is max unless 2x 6pin means 1.225v... I had x1 6 pin 1.200v max but OpenCL clocks up to over 1,350Mhz core. Gaming though it can go up to over 1,200Mhz... With x2 6pin Power it can do 1,250Mhz Core... That's 40 GPixel/s and 80 GTexel/s.

For that price, the AMD 370 can play up to 2720x1530 over AMD VSR... Typical Gaming 2560x1440 without an issue from my experience it works very well on titles like Quantum Break at 1440p among other titles. It can do 3840x2160 over HDMI 2.0 on a 4k native display though as well.

8GB Reference RX 480 ... $225 (Good Deal For 8GB) (Throw Offer .. $135 + $5 shipping = $140 shipped 8GB RX480)

4GB Reference GTX 980 ... $250 (Not Bad With 64 ROPs vs RX480 32 ROPs) (Though RX480 gets A-LOT-DONE on 32 ROPs)

I would say NO on the 7770 just because it only has 1gb vram.

Like others have said i would save longer to be more happy with your purchase.   A 480 or gtx 1060 are pretty good cards for the price.  But i wouldn't waste your money on a 7770 that's for sure.

I would def save save save to get a better card.  Mow some lawns, borrow from a family member, work some over time at work, get a second job.   It's always better to buy a more powerful card than to cheap out.  Cheaping out, you will only end up having to buy a new GPU sooner then later.
