Upgrade from GTX 780 to 1070 or wait till Volta series? - Page 2

Same predicament here. I've been trying to hold off my itchy finger to replace my current 780ti SLI. I just cannot seem to get the horsepower with all the new titles, like DOOM, Deus Ex, etc still in my library and not getting played. I'm getting impatient. Rumour has it that JHH will show case the 1080ti in CES next year and that is 2 months away. For those of you who have waited until now best to wait another couple of months. What's the worst that could happen nothing is announced but AMD forces Nividia to price cut and we get to buy cheaper cards. thumb.gif

What games, what resolution and what settings. Your statement is to vague. We both know you aren't blazing through Witcher 3 at 1440p or even 1080P with settings cranked up or even at high. No way you are maintaining a high min FPS on many of the newest high demanding games. I can blaze through a game on a 780 if I turn the res down and many of the graphical settings. I'm sorry but 780 is old and struggles on the newest games especially if you increase res and graphical settings. Heck as I mentioned earlier a 290X is now faster than a 780ti.

I'd like to add that as I said earlier the benchmarks don't lie. Your 780 does not blaze through any of the newest games with Ultra settings as you claim and there are hundreds of benchmarks from professional reviews sites that proves this. Heck we have a guy that posted above me struggling with his #2 780's in SLI.

Edit: Oh wait I can't believe I missed this. I just checked your hardware info out. You are using a 3440 x 1440 21:9 monitor and are claiming that with a 780 classified you are blazing through the games on high or even ultra.
I think you must have a very skewed definition of what blazing through a game constitutes of. Like I said give me examples of the games you are able to do this with cause they are either very old games. Go play Crysis 3, Witcher 3, tombraider, etc.... show me how with that res and card you are blazing through them cause something is not right here, the math simply does not add up.

witcher 3 sucks and wont buy a game like that just for benchmarking , lol sorry,

I play 1440p OCed I think at 1108MHz, BF4 on X4 MSAA I believe , tweaked all to ultra on all, usually grabbing about 65~70FPS if that helps.

Maybe the older games i play doesnt help LOL.

I put the same settings on BF1 beta and i was grabbing about the same FPS

the 1070 and 1080's are fairly new cards. there's no point in waiting around that long for volta. upgrade and enjoy the higher frames. especially if you're playing newer AAA games.

There is actually, not giving money for inbetween generation that will be fast forgotten when the king Volta arrives.
This are expensive cards, and i don't plan to change it for nothing, need to have any motivation for doings so,
and right now i don't see such thing or a games that require it - 980 Ti G1 with modded bios is just perfect for my long run.

I know, which is why I had to call in question his claim that a single 780 is capable of driving his monitor with ultra settings on blazing through them. Forget about Witcher 3, I listed a bunch of other games above. I can list even more if you like. No matter what you say, you aren't blazing through anything unless it's old and you have turned down graphical settings.

That can be said for every new generational architectural change Nvidia makes for all there cards. Volta isn't going to stay around forever either, they will make another jump same as always and focus driver optimization on the new product.
