So, given my past success on delidding my 4700k, i decided to give it a shot and delid the 6700k, to save time so as to not ship it to someone to do it for me..
I think my box cutter knife must have turned at a weird angle as i was rocking on the corners.. because on at least two corners you now see gold exposed.. i thought maybe i'd be ok, that it didnt hit a trace, but i think it must have.
I took a chance, put it in, placed the IHS ontop, pressed power, all i get is a dram light.. it doesnt post.. i put another 6700k i had on hand in, no issues.. posts fine.
So at this point, if it is the gold nicks, is there anything that can be done or is it truly dead. I tried, albeit stupidly i guess, to put some black electrical tape, tiny amount, on the nicks without blocking any terminals and that did not help.
I should mention the cpu light doesnt light up red, just the dram, with the good chip, dram lights up, then cpu led, then the video card, in sequence.. with the delid one just dram comes on, no beep.
Thoughts or just RIP i suppose.
