My Gen 1 Chromecast works perfectly fine. Worked fine w/ Emby and Netflix. Although now I just use it for Netflix since I use a RPi2B for Kodi/Emby now.

Google is not going to bother with h.265. They already have VP9 and are working on AV1 with the Alliance for Open Media. Plus, the licensing is in a tail spin since MPEGLA can't enforce compliance from the patent holders. Its one of the few reasons why h.265 isn't in everything yet.
