While it doesn't compare to the quality of either the DJI 4 or the karma, it still has one advantage none of them has. Its size.

Each drone has its pros and cons. Either better motors, better camera, extractable grip, or super small, each will fit to the person who needs what the pros are.

Personally, while I love the karma and the extractable grip and camera assembly, the much smaller size of the mavic, is going to make it a lot easier to take during a bike trip. It will even save me space for a mirrorless or smaller DSLR in a small backpack.

You guys are fairly far off the mark. You could buy a kit with all the parts you need and have it assembled in an afternoon. It takes longer to get the controls and software set up than it does to build it. Of course it can be much more complicated than that if you want it to be, just like building a computer.

And on top of that, most custom built rigs look a hell of a lot better than the plastic fantastic you get from companies like DJI

Hey bigjdubb

Can you post a link to the sites that sell the kits?? I returned me DJI 4 Advanced a few weeks ago and I would totally be interested in building one!

bigjdubb, I'd like to see someone with very little technical know-how build a quad/hex with camera for under $1300. RTF exists for the same reason why PC and consoles both can co-exists.

Regardless of DIY or RTF, The one I have with have built-in shots (ie cable with multi-points) that just cannot be replicated by one pilot (requires one camera operator and pilot with lots of experience).

I hate to break $1000 drone and right it all off and have to buy a new one. 8K not possible right now even for Go Pro. 4K 60 fps has to come first.

do you actually fly multirotors or just making assumptions?

GoPro is not superior than DJI camera for the fact that it has fisheye. I fly with one and cant stand it.
If you fix it in post you lose resolution.
You can modify it but the aftermarket lenses aren't as sharp and they're pricey.

regardless of a $50 or $3000 system, you fly it expect it may fall out of sky one day (either glitch/mechanical failure/bird strike etc). Fly what you can afford to lose or get insurance.
